Reject the Boy Scouts of America's anti-gay policy

    1. Petition by

We, the Scouts and community members of Southeast Wisconsin urge the Three Harbors Council to reject the Boy Scouts of America's anti-gay policy.

Among service organizations, the Boy Scouts are increasingly isolating themselves with their discriminatory policy. Organizations including the Girl Scouts, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, as well as the 4H Club all welcome gay kids as well as adult leaders.

We love the Boy Scouts, but we can’t support this policy. That's why we urge you to speak out against the ban on gay Scouts and leaders and adopt an inclusive policy like other troops, packs, councils, and lodges across the country have done -- so the Boy Scouts can maintain its relevancy, improve recruitment, and truly live by the principles it teaches its members.

NOTE: We encourage everyone to join this campaign, but if you're a current or former Scout or leader, please say so in the "Why People Are Signing" section. Thanks!

I'm an ASM, my husband is Advancements Coordinator, and we have a Star Scout and a Second Class Scout. The anti-gay policy conflicts with the BSA's vision and mission statements and with the Scout Law and Oath. Do the right thing, BSA -- own up to your wrongdoing and overturn this deleterious policy. Membership should be based on character and nothing else.

I am a proud member of Three Harbors council and will always love scouting. I think that the BSA should be able to make a comprimise that will make both sides happy. We need the support of fellow scouters so that the LGBT community can gain leadership skills, the fundamentals of scouting, and the experiences that we all share. We can create the future by allowing LGBT and build our future leaders. We must stop bullying!!!!

My three sons are Boy scouts and my husband is an assistant scout master. I love everything about boy scouting except this policy, which even seems to go against some of the laws of scouting (the scout handbook says a scout is friendly - he respects people even if their beliefs or customs are different. A scout is kind - he treats others as he would want to be treated).

I cannot possibly understand why the BSA would reject someone who has the potential to make the organization better, stronger, etc. As Scoutmaster, Vigil OA Member, I know we need as many volunteers as we can get to run the best organization we can have. Controversy is not beneficial to keep the BSA moving forward toward the next 100 years.

Discrimination is philosophically wrong in a pluralistic society.
