Please Delay the Vote for Changing the Assignment Plan Until September

    1. Petition by

      Karen Carter

      Cary, NC

We respectfully request that the Wake County Board of Education Delay the Vote for Changing the Assignment Plan until September.

This is essential in order to allow adequate time for all families with students in the WCPSS to be notified of what is being recommended (including a translation in Spanish for the Hispanic population).  As of 1:00 pm on Tuesday, June 19th, no direct notification has been given to families.

We ask that the BOE extended common courtesy to families and inform them of this potential change before voting on such an important issue.

Sincerely,

WCPSS Parents

It is bad enough our President ignores constitution processes. We need to have ordely democracy here in Wake County

Those required public meetings of the BOE? To ensure you hear from the parents you represent and the children you're there to serve about perspectives that might not otherwise occur to you. Voting on such a major issue without informing us is just wrong.

On the specific issue, it's wasteful of money and other resources and rude to all of us who spent so much time providing input to dump the current plan before it's even been fully implemented. I am pro-diversity, but haven't seen any information about what the numbers ended after the choice periods ended. Do we really need to stay in national news for our assignment policy 'fixes'?

I am opposed to any changes in the current assignment plan. I also oppose the year round school assignments!

Give the current plan a chance. By recklessly changing it again, there is a forced lack of stability. Allow for parental input. Delay or postpone this vote.

The focus of the board should be on improving the quality of the education received in ALL our schools for ALL our students! If the children of a particular school are falling behind, put a special focus on helping to improve that school. Make a quality education the priority (and use a national standard and NOT a NC standard)!

This plan had far more successes than failures. It looks like pure partnership by the Democratic Board. The last board at least offered multiple sessions for people to speak. In addition, they modified the plan in many ways when concerns were discovered. The Old Plan was tried for many years, this plan should at least last until the next election cycle before any changes are made. It appears this going back to the days of when the school board acted that parents had no rights or input in the education of our children.
