The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971...before computers, before e-mail, before cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure.

I'm asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around and, in my opinion, seized upon.

Congressional Reform Act of 2011

1. No Tenure / No Pension.
A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12.
The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S. ) to receive the message. Maybe it is time.

Dear president of the united states

African Americans are fortunate to have leaders who fought for a difference in Black America. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X are two powerful men in particular who brought hope to colored people in the United States. Both preached the same message about colored people having power and strength in the midst of all the hatred that surrounded them. I am an undocumented student who has graduated from high school in Laredo TX, who just wishes to have a normal life like any other American kid. I came here when I was 7 years old and right now I am 19 years old my immigration status have been in process since then. I have a 3 year old son, and I am married. I wish to attend college but I can’t. not because I don’t want to, but because I can’t. I want to become a law enforcement officer that is my American dream. I dislike the fact that when people say illegal’s they insinuate just Mexican’s. There are people from diverse

countries like for example Mexico is one of them, Guatemala, el Salvador, Panama, Honduras are also countries that migrate to America. Why? Well, for the same reason I came here “the American dream“. What is the American dream? Well since Columbus made land, people have been searching for the “American dream”. many people have their own ideas about it . My idea of the American dreams is as James Truslow Adams

      said

"that dream of a nation in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with options for each according to capacity or accomplishments. It is a dream of social stability in which each man and each woman shall be able to achieve to the fullest distinction of which they are essentially competent, and be distinguish by others for what they are, despite of the incidental conditions of birth or stance. The American Dream is often something that humanity wonders about. What is the American dream? Many people discover success in a range of things. There are many different definitions of the American Dream. However, the American Dream embrace a sight of respective prosperity, personal safety, and personal liberty. The American dream is a continually fluctuating set of ideals, reflecting the ideas of an era. That is what the American dream should be about, not just racism. calling people names and killing their dream that is not what America is all about. I do realized the subject of illegal migration into America is a very controversial and challenging issue; but the house of representatives and the senate can do something about it, as well as you Mr. president remember you won because of the Hispanic vote, since they trusted you in what you said immigration reform was your promise. I believe your presidential campaign could be won for a second time. earn the Hispanic votes again, by doing what you promise “immigration reform” if not “dream act” at least that will show people you tried. Come up with something, temporarily visas or permits for students to work legally in the united sates that should be something easier than just legalizing 12 million people at once, help at least 65,000 or more students who have graduated and have a goal for this country. Think about Mr. president I believe if you would come up with something like that it would be easier to approve, why? Well because the dream act offers full citizenship that is what congress don’t want to give. How about some visas for high school students to have an opportunity for residence and later even citizenship . Residence can’t vote can have all the rights as a citizen but offers and opportunity in life please Mr. president do something about it what would president Lincoln do if he was here right now he freed the slaves and gave them rights in the constitution, so why can you gives us that same opportunity to become successful. Start the immigration applications moving again. I know the congress don’t want to give young people like me a chance, because we were not born in this country, but I consider this my country. Even though I am from Mexico the united states is my home. I was raised in this country, this country gave me education and the knowledge TO be successful. I know I don’t get any government help for college or anything but I have manage to safe money cutting people’s yards. I know if I would go to Mexico I would be able to become a federal police, and use my intelligence and ideas for Mexico like over their they don’t have any computer laptops in the units they have no cameras in the units so how is their not going to be any corruption there is a way to stop violence but I have a son ,and a wife who are citizens and I sure would not like to risk them but I know I could do something with my life and make Mexico a better place, but my place is here in the united states I want an opportunity in this society I know it can be done, if I am going to do what Malcolm x did for his people. Starting today august 3 2011. I know you will help out Mr. president do the right thing and help us make our dreams come true getting the job that you want, please don’t kill our dreams, as Malcolm’s x teacher told him, when he decided he wanted to become a lawyer his teacher kill his dream just because he was colored don’t do that with us we are not bad we are people just like any other American who know English and Spanish me personality is starting to learn French as his 3rd language any thing is possible I am just follow Emerson quote don’t let people tell you what to do be a leader not a followers that is what I am. I will keep sending you letters every day until I see something done I am going to be like the guy from Stephen King novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, the film portrays the story of Andy Dufresne. So I am going keeps sending letters like he did, he did to get the library fix ,but I to get something even more to let people know all over the united states there is hope out their. also people who think like Malcolm x leaders I should say because that is what I am a leader. that is what you learn from good teachers ,and also we as students. Thank you and god bless the united states.
