Make Unsubsidized Student Loan available to all students

    1. Petition by

Without warning or explanation, unsubsidized student loans have been denied to students, according to major. I am afraid that most colleges, along with The U.S. Department of Education, have forced a severe hardship upon college students by imposing this discriminatory financial restriction. Most college students have a strategically, financially planned educational calendar to include the unsubsidized loan. College students are dependent on the unsubsidized loan to aide with the rising costs of higher learning.

By restricting a ‘non need based’ loan to certain individuals, colleges have also implied that its students are incompetent in making financial decisions for themselves. The unsubsidized loan may ensure that some students are able to afford a higher education.

If a student chooses to accept an unsubsidized loan, a financial need obviously exists; this need is one that an educational institute should not have the authority to control. Students should have the privilege in making their own financial decisions.

This petition should act as a request to make the unsubsidized loan available, again, to all students without prejudice. Please help.

Without explanation or warning, the unsubsidized student loan was made unavailable to most college students. Some students depend on this loan. The loan should be made available to all students. To restrict based upon major is discrimination.
