Stop the Viper Day event

By hosting this Viper Day, not only is it in direct contrast to the zoo's own mission statement but it also undermines local conservation efforts and wildlife management strategies while revealing the complete discount of endemic herpetofauna to the state of Texas, in particular the Western Diamondback Rattlesnake.

Follow the link to the Victoria Advocate, the local news paper, and pay attention to the Zoo Director's comments. It would appear that she is oblivious to the negative connotation that this partnership represents.

Rattlesnake Republic appears to be a bunch of men who hunt and kill rattle snakes to make money. Repulsive! Why would a zoo want to host such a group?

I am shocked and appalled by your Viper Day event. You are aligning with people that exist to exploit and kill wildlife. The individuals from Rattlesnake Republic care nothing about nature and do nothing to educate people and conserve wildlife. You are advancing nothing by validating the despicable manner that these people treat wildlife. You are in direct conflict with your own mission statement: “The Texas Zoo connects people with wildlife from Texas and the rest of the world; inspires caring for nature; and advances conservation through education, recreation, science and action.” Please consider what this type of activity will do to your reputation in the zoo community and come to bear on any future attempt to become accredited through AZA.

Using snakes fort the rattlesnake roundups is inhumane:( We wouldn't do this to any other creature except snakes. It is time to change. This is their world too.
