This is important because not every one in Ohio believes in God and a motto is "A short sentence or phrase chosen as encapsulating the beliefs or ideals guiding an individual, family, or institution." The state seems very exclusive sometimes and I believe that anything that has to do with government needs to be secular since that is what is says in the constitution. Thomas Jefferson and others would not be very happy with the people who came up with this.

A state motto should be representative of all of its citizens, so it seems inappropriate to bring religion into the matter. Not all people believe in a god. Also, separation of church and state is ALWAYS a good thing, no matter what your religious views are.
