is to eat lower on the food chain. A 2006 United Nations report concluded that the greatest single contributor to global warming is animal agriculture. Kick the meat and dairy habit one meal a day, one day a week, one week a month, and finally for good, and really make a difference!

I disagree. Having one less child is the greatest single step you can take. You could stop eating altogether and never offset that extra child.

An even more important reason to do this is because the higher on the food chain, the more concentrated the environmental poisons, including nuclear radiation.

I have eaten meat only a few times per year for so many years that I cannot count them ... around 40 years now. One of my teachers got me started experimenting with different diets when I was a teenager.

I eat local eggs regularly when they are in season and occasionally organic, live culture yogurt. I highly recommend it for health, energy, disease prevention, sustainability.

Went lacto-ovo vegetarian in 1991, and vegan in Dec 2006. It's the best decision I've ever made. In addition to to sparing other beings from suffering and needless death, it has improved the quality of my own life in so many ways. I wish the best of luck to all who are committed to this journey - you can do it!

I'm there.  Not vegetarian.  Not abstinent.  Just reasonable moderation.  I usually only eat meat with dinner.  Sometimes not even then.  I did it.  It's a good idea.  But the text here is a little misleading.  The methane produced by agriculture is comparatively natural.  It is not exactly what happens in the wild, but compared to cars, roads and factories it is extremely close.  That said, still a good idea in real moderation.
