Victory

The petition, complete with comments, was delivered to the Catholic Church on Monday 13 August. It appears that, for the time being at least, the SCA has been given a reprieve.

The collections are to be dispersed throughout Scotland. The danger is that access might be restricted or even denied depending the wishes or circumstances of the controlling authorities. Keep the archives in the capital, in the care of a dedicated, qualified archivist

Because such vital records need to be retained, preserved and made availale for future generations by those who are qualified to do so. Also maintaining consistent access and availability to researchers

As there are so many Scottish descendants scattered round the world, I believe it is vital that the safe keeping of this valuable information is kept in a central place for all to have access to. I believe that Edinburgh as the capital, is the most appropriate place for such safe keeping.

This is a wonderful, unique archive, which has made a very concrete contribution to some outstanding scholarly work. Its dispersal and potential inaccessibility will prove a serious and quite unnecessary restriction to our understanding of Scotland's Catholic, and indeed broader, history.

The collection is far too important to split, and will there be highly trained archivists in each area to maintain these records properly for our future generations? I think no is the answer. Please keep them together, and safe in one place for all historians.
