This is important to me and my fellow students because we take pleasure in knowing we have our rights as Canadian citizens and we want the right to hug our friends at school.

Hugging is a form of love. We need to do and show people that we care. It should be encouraged. It is one way to beat bullying because it will become the in thing to do. I applaud these students. good for you.

If children are hugging to console one another, you should be proud of your children. They have learned compassion.

These young ladies are learning a very important lesson in spite of their school; rights and freedoms only exist for those willing to fight to preserve them. A ban on hugging? What a heavy handed misuse of power, and one that clearly only serves the establishment rather than the school population as a whole. However small the cause may seem, however petty some may claim it to be, know that the only thing that will preserve your basic human rights is to not budge when someone tries to take them from you. Clearly the school is in dire need of new and better informed management. Well done, girls!

You are teaching children it is not a good thing to have contact with other people. It is a horrible thing to teach anyone and you should be ashamed of creating this rule in the first place.

      Sincerely,

Mother of two children in school

Hugging is a natural, human healthy interaction between friends. The only bad hug is an unwanted, unsolicited hug. Friends hug and there shouldn't be a barrier to that friendly show of affection.
