Keep Camp Pinewood as a Girl Scout property

      Dansville, NY

We want girls to be empowered and for Girls Scouts to be a place “where girls grow strong.” We want them to acquire leadership skills and appreciate their environment; Adults should not be teaching girls to be savvy shoppers and to embrace the superficial, stereotypical Barbie role --perpetuating the gender bias that is still so prevalent in American society.
Camp Pinewood in Dansville, New York is an underutilized asset but is worth the money to maintain for the girls of the future. (Facilities include a dining hall, A-frame and platform tent units, heated lodges, amphitheater, an adventure course, boathouse, infirmary, primitive camp sites, and a very extensive network of trails. Natural features include Lake Silver Dew, hardwood forests, hemlock ravines, pine plantations, old fields, sports fields, and seasonal streams and marshes. Pinewood has a picturesque waterfront. Activities available include canoeing, row-boating, paddle-boating, funyaks, and fishing!)

Please keep it open!

Thank you again for your support of Camp Pinewood! Your petition comments have moved me to tears. We are 200 strong and counting!
This afternoon I called Cindy Odom, the CEO of GSWNY. She is out of the office all this week so I spoke with her assistant, Leah. She took my message and said that Cindy would return my call. My only question for her was "What would it take to keep Pinewood open?" Can you email or call the central office with a plea of your own? Every voice matters!
      Here's the info:

I edited the petition letter to include more detailed information about why Pinewood should stay open and possible solutions for making it financially feasible. I will be sending the letter to local papers too. Thanks for your support! Please keep spreading the word! Best, Noel

I have been a girl scout my entire life and I have always looked forward to camping or Camporees that occurred at Camp Pinewood. I have made many memories there with friends that I am still close with as well as with my mother. Do you know how sad my mother was learning that other girls may not have the opportunity to do camping experiences there, especially the Mother's Day camp outs... I have had so many memories that I still reflect back to- archery in the fields, finding a snake in our A-frame tents and geocashing with my troops- just to name a few. It will be so sad to see such a wonderful place be sold. Why has this place been so underutilized? I am not sure, but every troop I have been with has never gone one year without camping at least once at Pinewood. My troop was actually considering returning to Pinewood for a one year "reunion"- since we have bridged to adult girl scouts. It would be devastating to see this place be sold and the opportunity for many young girls to have fun in the outdoors, without computers and phones, which in this society can be such an eye opening experience. Please do not sell Camp Pinewood; promote it and show all the great things Pinewood has to offer!

      Sincerely,

      Rebecca C. Geisler

I'm signing because I went to the camp as a child, and worked as a counselor in training. It was always a place with fond memories, where friendships were born, laughter was endless and problems didn't exist. I always hoped to work there. I hope it stays open so I can send my children there and they can enjoy the memories and life changing experiences that I did!

I love this camp and I was a dedicated girl scout before flying out with my Gold Award. I went to camp multiple times and made some great friends. Taking this camp will only be a detriment to the Girl Scouts of Western New York.
