We, the undersigned, call upon Sonoma County Commissioners to approve Heidi’s proposal for lodging 35 dogs, with grooming and training at The Meadows Kennel.
The need for this facility is indicated by the lack of similar facilities in the county and surrounding areas.
The Meadows Kennel is not just a business it's very much a necessity, a community service not just for elderly residents, but all of Sonoma County.
There are limited options in Sonoma County and the surrounding areas for dog lodging. There is no dog lodging within 40 minutes in any direction of The Meadows Kennel, except for one that primarily grooms. For all residents, especially elderly residents and even tourists this poses more of a safety issue than the Hwy 12 traffic issue.
Boarding dogs constitutes less traffic as clients are not coming and going in the same day. Barking is mitigated by one attendant to every 10 dogs. Traffic is less with lodging 35 dogs (average stay 4 nights) than 10 daycare. (Enter, exit, enter, exit for daycare.)
The Meadows Kennel sits on a Diverse Agricultural parcel, zoned for a commercial dog facility and is a 3+ acre, property. The valley needs a kennel close in proximity to thousands of people with dogs. Isn't it more safe for people to just drive a few minutes to The Meadows than one hour?
Boarding dogs somewhere close has been a need from Sonoma to Santa Rosa for over 30 years. Location, location, location. There is a huge demand.
For those concerned with the scenic view of Hwy 12, drive by and see the sheep, horses and dogs on this beautifully maintained property on what used to be a property with high weeds and uncared for land. This is the way to show off Sonoma County and take care of its needs. Yes, The Meadows Doggie Dude Ranch can do that!
