Please support a conscience vote on gay marriage

Tony Abbott currently opposes marriage equality for gay citizens. While Mr Abbott strongly opposes marriage equality, there are many other Liberal MPs who strongly support marriage equality in the Liberal Party. I want these other MPs to have the ability to vote for marriage equality when a bill is tabled in Parliament.

Marriage is an Act of parliament and the majority of marriages (70%+) are now civil ceremonies and not conducted in a church. In our secular society, the religious argument to justify anti-gay marriage sentiment just doesn't cut it.

All love is equal and the government can not continue to deny gay citizens the right to marry the person they love.

There are no negatives to changing the Act - lets live and let live.

Mr Abbott, its time you supported marriage equality. if you can't bring yourself to do that, then we want a conscience vote in the Liberal Party.

GAY MARRIAGE - ITS TIME.

I'm looking for 10,000 signatures. If everyone can get one more person to sign we would be at 9,000.

I'm looking forward to marriage equality in 2012. People power is the only way to achieve this.

Because I'm a bisexual youth, there is nothing I wish for more than for gay marriage to be legalised. If marriage continues to not be available for all of the gay community then that is just completely unacceptable. That is 10 percent of the Australian population that you are excluding just because of something completely out of their control. I really hope you listen to this petition, because my future depends on you. Thank you.

I want equal rights for everyone. I am ashamed that gay marriage doesn't exist yet in Australia. Allowing gay people to get married would have no negative affect on anyone. So many people I know believe that gay people deserve the right to be married, there's no question about it.

When does Tony Abbott want to change their platform if not when the country wants it? He is not a leader at all. These are human rights

Consenting adults should be able to enter into a loving union with the same status as everybody else. This is important as it legitimises being gay and in a gay relationship as being equal to staright which is crucially important.
