Our democracy has become so corrupted by the influence of money that only the wealthy can run for office and only individuals and entities that can afford to contribute to political campaigns and pay lobbyists to influence politicians have any real say in our democracy. If we eliminate all private contributions to political campaigns, we can level the political playing field and make it possible for an Abraham Lincoln to once again stand up on a proverbial soap box in the center of towns across America and have his voice and the voice of all Americans truly heard.
Under the new constitutional amendment, private individuals and corporations, including PACs and Super PACS, would no longer be permitted to contribute to campaigns for public office. Instead, political campaigns would be financed with a new system where the only funds that can be used in a political campaign come from tax return check offs. Individuals running for public office would have to qualify for the funds by submitting signed petitions to local, state and federal boards of elections with the number of signatures required to be determined by the board of elections. All those running for public office would receive equal amounts of radio and television air time which would be donated by the networks as a condition to maintaining their broadcast licenses.
Our system is in such a state of disrepair that even well-intentioned patriots who run for office have no choice but to engage in destructive campaign tactics to get elected and remain in office. Clearly, politicians who are part of the system will never risk their jobs to support the fundamental changes that are needed. The only way to fix our democracy is by employing a grass roots campaign in every state calling for a constitutional convention to amend the constitution.
Our U.S. Constitution provides the procedure for fixing our democracy. The constitution says:
"The Congress, whenever two thirds of both houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose amendments to this Constitution, or, on the application of the legislatures of two thirds of the several states, shall call a convention for proposing amendments, which, in either case, shall be valid to all intents and purposes, as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the legislatures of three fourths of the several states, or by conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other mode of ratification may be proposed by the Congress; provided that no amendment which may be made prior to the year one thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any manner affect the first and fourth clauses in the ninth section of the first article; and that no state, without its consent, shall be deprived of its equal suffrage in the Senate."
If you have had enough, sign this petition and let true democracy return to America.
