The Canadian Government has denied or postponed indirect funding of this institution. PEARL is a uniquely important research organization that gathers data on atmospheric and environmental conditions in the high arctic. Its continued research is essential in understanding climate change and its effect on the arctic regions.

Without funding closure of this research station is imminent.

Another quick update, we have passed the 210 signature mark but are still short of the desired goal of 1000 signatures.

A few links that may help, there is a twitter feed and a facebook page dedicated to saving PEARL. By linking and retweeting you can help garner the support that is out there for PEARL

      Here are the links

The facebook page in particular has great information about PEARL. Both also reference this petition as well.

Dear co-signers of the PEARL petition,

I'm sure a large number of you have been directed here by the facebook page and twitter feed set up to support this cause. We need more signatures! The initial goal is 1000 signatures, and if this is working correctly, the Honorable Minister of the Environment gets an email for each signature.

Please help by spreading the word and drawing attention to this cause. We all benefit in the long run by supporting good basic science that benefits mankind and the planet.

I have also enclosed a link to CFCAS ( Canadian Foundation for Climate and Atmospheric Sciences). There you can make a financial contribution if you so choose to help sustain PEARL until we secure appropriate funding through your efforts and signatures.

My thanks also to Dr. Strong of The University of Toronto and Dan Weaver for helping garner more signatures.

Let's keep pressure on The Minister of the Environment to restore funding for PEARL!

      Best Regards

      John Rizzi

Because it is a very important control study for the rest of North America, we cannot truly understand the climate of Canada, or the United States, without it.

the government is not interested in our health or much else for that matter. I care and am hoping that many more will too.

I am signing this petition to try and help ensure that the nuttiness that passes for policymaking here in the US doesn't infect Canada, which has been a political comfort to many progressives from south of the border... don't let the greed get you, too.

Our country's people and resources are our most precious asset. This initiative is a solid investment of my tax dollars towards both of these keys to Canada's long term prosperity.
