Government agencies that use tax dollars to support their programs, like school districts, are not permitted by law to influence elections. During their half-time performance and UIL competition, Beaumont Independent School District Central Medical Magnate High School marching band conducted a simulated fight between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama. This fight also included the PBS character Big Bird. In the skit, the announcer can be heard cheering on candidates. At the conclusion, Mr. Obama and Big Bird knock Mr. Romney to the ground. Public schools do not need to be involved in political messages and are not allowed to use taxpayer funds to promote political messages. This is a gross misuse of tax dollars.  The skit can be seen in the embedded video.

Political bias should not be promoted by a public school!!

This is NOT behaviour that should be taught to adults or to students!!!!

Only one was knocked down, not both which was also a voting choice made by someone in the band. We go to the poll and vote secretly, many after praying, but NOT as a fighting episode. Of course - Heaven forbid that that be shown on the field. We are NOT even allowed to have a prayer over the microphones before the games anymore.

Not only was this skit immoral and despicable, it was very offensive and projected violent behavior and disrespect to public figures. I am sickened!

It never ceases to amaze me how stunts like this can be "swept under the rug" but incidents involving prayer, the Bible, Jesus Christ brings in the media, fines and in some cases, a trip to jail. These students, the band director and the principal all need to be punished!!!
