130,000+ Texas women use this program to get basic women's wellness checks including pap smears, breast exams, birth control, ect. Without this program many women would lose access to their only form of healthcare. This includes many women who also take birth control for medical reasons such as pmdd,pcos,ect..and also many women who otherwise would not be able to afford insurance to cover basic women's health such as cervical cancer screenings and birth control.

Planned parenthood helps 44% of women on the women's health program. To lose this program/end it's affilation would leave nearly half of women on the plan without a place to go, a place they have relied on. The state is talking about "state's rights" to choose the providers for this plan, but this only limit's women's right to choose the healthcare provider they want.

    3. NPR story on Planned Parenthood and Texas

      Rene Resendez
      Petition Organizer

Texas and the federal government are going at each other again, this time over Planned Parenthood.

The Texas Legislature cut off all Medicaid money to Planned Parenthood because of its involvement in abortions; in response, the federal government has suspended funding for the state's reproductive health program.

Now, Texas is suing the Obama administration.

    5. Texas Att. General Suing Obama Administration?

      Rene Resendez
      Petition Organizer

Apparently the Texas attorney general is suing the obama administration for discontinuing funding to the whp although this would not have even been an issue had Rick Perry not changed the program guidelines in the first place.

Let Rick Perry know you are disappointed in his decision to turn down federal funding for the WHP without letting us know how the program will be saved as he "vowed to save it" saying he would "find the money"

    8. This doesn't change a thing Perry.

      Rene Resendez

Your statement does not change what you are doing. 44% of women on the whp use planned parenthood and you should not deny these women services to a location they have come to time and time again because they like the service and atmosphere of their medical provider. Women should have the right to choose who they see and where they go. Many women do not even know where else they can go besides planned parenthood. Stop trying to put this on the feds. If you had not changed the stipulations on the WHP then they would not be involved. Don't underestimate the intelligence of Texan women.

Odessa, TX - Planned Parenthood is closing their Odessa office and now they want to let patients know what to do.

This week patients will receive postcards in the mail notifying them of the changes.

The office will merge with the Midland Planned Parenthood clinic after the Odessa office closes March 9th. They will be offering all of the same services.

CEO Karen Hildebrand says the main change is that patients will have to pay out of pocket since the Texas Women's Health Program will no longer be available in the state.

This comes after news that the state signed a rule forbidding any "abortion provider" from participating in the program.

As a result, the Obama Administration is threatening to cut off all federal funding for the Women's Health Program if the state does not change that rule. If an agreement is not reached, funding will end next month.

      Rene Resendez
      Petition Organizer

Remember in the past Rick Perry tried to mandate the immunization "guardasil" on the platform that it "prevented cancer and was not std related"? However, he is now backtracking and trying to take away cervical cancer screenings from thousands of Texan women? What happened to being against cancer Rick?

      Rene Resendez
      Petition Organizer

Let's let Rick know women are watching and we deserve to have a program from low income texan women. You don't have to be on the program to sign, but if you do the program will be there for you if you ever need it! Especially in the economy when people can lose their jobs with no warning you still deserve access to women's services!

It is important for married couples to be able to plan their families. I have been married for 11 years, my husband and I have 2 children. We are trying to build the best life we can for them. Adding another child to our family is something we cannot afford to do right now. The TX Women's Health Program enables me to get birth control at a price that I can afford.

Many women rely on birth control to treat incurable conditions such as endometriosis and fibroid cysts. I am one of those women. So are other members of my family. This is very important to me and women everywhere.
