I would like to bring to your attention an incident that took place at Gray's Creek Middle School on October 17, 2011. My son, Dawson Gibbs was assaulted in his gym class by his teacher, Mrs. Dawn A Hoyt. Apparently there was a kickball game in progress and my son was in line to kick the ball, Mrs. Hoyt stated that she thought Dawson had already kicked and instructed him to move to the back of the line. Dawson either did not hear the guidance, which I believe to be the case as his hearing is sub-par, or he ignored her. Mrs. Hoyt then approached Dawson and gave the instruction again in which case he complied. On his way to the back of the line, Mrs. Hoyt purposely tripped Dawson either in an attempt to cause him physical harm or embarrass him. She succeeded in the latter. Mrs. Hoyt has admitted these facts in my presence and that of the vice principal, Mrs. Libby Rogers. Dawson immediately notified me of this incident after school and my husband and I immediately returned to the school to speak to the principal, Mrs. Sara Whitaker. When I explained the story to her she laughed in our face and told us there was no way that one of her teachers could commit such an action. She then passed off the investigation to the Mrs. Rogers as she would be absent the following day. Mrs. Hoyt admitted her wrong doing that night and then we met with her and the Mrs. Rogers the next day. Mrs. Hoyt stated that she had a bad day and did give a half hearted apology but this certainly does not excuse her actions. I'm sure it is not the policy of Cumberland County Schools for a bad day to result in such an egregious action to be taken against a student. As of today, Mrs. Hoyt is still teaching at the school, much to my dismay. I am absolutely appalled that my son still has to go to school and face this teacher every day. When we went in and spoke with Mrs. Whitaker again, her only suggestion was to remove Dawson from his physical education class. I don't feel like he should be punished by dropping his class because of a bullying teacher. I am extremely disturbed and demand action. I want Mrs. Dawn A Hoyt removed from her position as a educator, so she will no longer be allowed to abuse children in this disrespectful manner!

I am having a similar problem in aldermen road elementary school with my oldest in third grade. They claim that no bulling is going on in that school but they are wrong. My son has come home with bruises from another student, and has been thrown in a seat by the bus driver. my son has not been a great student this year, he sometimes is hard to handle, but when it comes to this they just looked at him and said well what did you first. The vice Principal actually was laughing about it. My son is still at that school because I do not feel like he should have to transfer schools. Nothing has come to these three children that have done this to him just dont do it a gain. My son actually have gotton suspended because a child The same one said he hit him, but the other child hit first but only my son gotten in trouble. Dont know what to do anymore This has been going on for two months now.

i have a two year old little girl and i am signing this petition to stop teachers like this from hurting children. They should be able to look forward to going school not scared to go because of what the teacher may do to them. I hope my child never has to experience something like this. This teacher should be fired and stripped of all her rights to teach or even be around children!!

Last year I had so many problems with Mrs. Whitaker and the then principal of buses Ms. Knox. Many times i made them aware of the issue both my children were having on the buses but my children were the ones constantly getting in trouble. In the end when i proved my point, Ms. Knox was sent back to South View, where my problems had originally began with her and my older 2 daughters. I tried to get lawyers involved in the issue because my son was assaulted on the bus and its a shame that not one attorney in Fayetteville would take my case. They all told me the school board would drag it out and it would cost alot in atty. fees. I am glad that some one is standing up to them and actually getting support, when i had none. One incident that i made Mrs. Whitaker aware of was a girl was making threats to assault my daughter. I went to the school that day, let her know, Mrs. Whitaker PROMISED she would move my kids to the front of the bus and not let this happen....and what happened, yes a fight the next afternoon....and she had Officer Sheets in her office when i got there to Protect her from me....she needed to protect my daughter!!!

I am signing this petition to support the parents in their task of being "HEARD" I too had problems with Mrs. Whitaker last year involving Ms. Knox the x-principal of school buses. Its all about pacifying everyone and smoothing it over but she really never does fix the problems.
