Louisiana Governor

Don’t make homeowners take a backseat to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome

    1. Petition by

      Louisiana Housing Alliance

On Monday, March 26th, the Jindal administration announced a plan to redirect hurricane recovery money from housing and other disaster programs to fund improvements to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

The Louisiana Housing Alliance opposes this plan and believes that the State of Louisiana should prioritize its neighborhoods and communities and honor its commitment to hurricane impacted parishes.

These federal disaster recovery dollars should not go to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

An investment in housing is an investment in economic development.

Be sure to tell the governor why housing is important to you in your signiture.

I know I'm not a resident, but having worked with Project Homecoming in NO the last several years, I have seen a big change in the rebuilding effort and it needs to have continued support. Not the Superdome !!!

      To Whom It May Concern:

In speaking with one of your representatives over the phone today, I was instructed to once again send another letter of appeal in order to be added to the list of eligible applicants to receive the mitigation grant for the storm shutters for the above captioned address.

In January, 2010, I was approached by OCD – HMGP (attached) in order for me to complete the necessary paperwork to be eligible for these mitigation measures/program – window shutters for the above captioned address. I am also attaching a timeline of my conversations with OCD – HMGP as well as information from a weblog entitled: “So Bobby Jindal thinks it’s a good idea to upgrade the Superdome rather than use the money to help people who are still trying to rebuild their homes.”

As per The Road Home Program’s recording and I am quoting it verbatim:

“Thank you for calling the Louisiana Road Home Program. The program designed to administer the federal funds for Louisiana homeowners and small rental property owners whose properties were damaged by Hurricanes Katrina & Rita. If you would like to continue this call in English, please press 1.

As a victim of the major weather events of 2005, I, as well as other individuals who were affected by these major weather events, are appalled by the fact that these federal funds are being diverted from The Road Home Program to renovate the Superdome in New Orleans for the third time versus assisting persons/humans who were affected by the major weather events of 2005! These funds were never meant to be used to renovate the Superdome. On its face, this renovation will only benefit millionaires and at least one billionaire from these renovations.

We, as victims of the major weather events of 2005, certainly hope you will reconsider your stance with regard the proper distribution of these funds to persons/humans rather than continuing to have these funds to be used to benefit millionaires and at least one billionaire.

It is almost 7 years since Katrina and a large area of the city has not been restored. We love our Saints but our people deserve better than to divert funds from their dedicated purpose of affordable housing to a football stadium which is already state of the art. Let Mercedes Benz pay for any additional improvements.

A Louisianian who cares nothing for the people of Louisiana. Who voted for this individual again? Shame on ya'll.

1460 more days to go. Who is running for Governor next? We need to keep a running list of what needs to be repealed.
