The Governor of IL: Please Grant Clemency to My Son Serving 30 Years for Marijuana

Jason has served 9 years of a 30 year prison sentence for the sales of marijuana. He was 19 when he was arrested and he thought he was invincible. He has since learned that he is not and fully understands the harm he has done to society. He has been reformed and is ready to come home.

We are asking that the Governor of Illinois grant a commutation of sentence (clemency). This commutation would still hold the guilty verdict and shorten Jason’s sentence to where he can be released now. He will be 30 years old in October and is a changed person. It is time for my son to come home.

Just returned from a family trip to visit Jason. We live in California and he is in Illinois, so we do not get to see him as often as we would like. Any way. The visit was good. Jason is holding on and staying positive. Thanks every one for your support. Jason enjoyed hearing that people are supporting him

    2. We will be keeping the petition open !!

I have learned that there is no reason to close this petition until Jason gets released from prison. That way we can continue to build his support base and I have a place to share with everyone the updates on Jason's situation. Therefore I will keep it open !!
If any wants to learn more about Jason, his sister created a facebook page (Please help! He has served his time) where we post letters from Jason and other interest to this situation. Currently Jason has been busy sharing his views of prison reform with our elected officials in Illinois and the general public through letters to the editors. He has an idea that will help reduce the cost of prison for the state of Illinois. It involves good time credit, who gets it and who does not. He has also looked at the recidivism rates and how important education is to not re-offending.

    3. I will be closing this petition on Sunday.

This is the last chance to sign. I have sent the link to the Illinois Governor and I will be closing out the petition on Sunday and sending him the hard copy. I have been informed that they will add this information to Jason's clemency packet. The Governor can take as long as he likes to make a decision. I am praying that he will be out of prison by Christmas. I am thankful to everyone who took the time to sign and offer your support. For anyone who would like to learn more about Jason we have a facebook page, Please Help! He has served his time

There has been changes in the prisons due to budget cuts. One of these cuts has closed Logan correctional facility (where Jason was housed) and Jason has been moved to Taylorville (which is a mild security prison). I am looking at it as if it is God's way of transitioning him home.

THIS SENTENCING IS NEITHER HELPFUL TO THE STATE NOR THE PRISONER, OUTRAGEOUS!

I went to school with Jason...He has always been a good guy. I think he has definitely paid his debt to society with the 10 years he has already served. It's crazy that people that have Molested/Raped a child have done less time then Jason....

This man wasn't old enough to understand the implications of the laws he was breaking. After 9 years he has learned his lesson. Please, just let him go home.

If injustice is already bad, this is injustice at its worst. Another victim of this failed war, another victory for the fools that continue to pursue it.
