Stop HOV to Toll lane conversion

The conversion of a 16 mile stretch of I-85 HOV lanes to HOT lanes has not achieved its stated goal - reduction of congestion through the Congestion Reduction Demonstration (CRD) grant which enabled this pilot program. The citizens of the Atlanta metropolitan area find that a system which gives commute time preference to those with greater economic means to be inherently unfair and call for the portion of this program which calls for the conversion of HOV lanes to Toll lanes be stopped.

I want to thank everyone for your support and for signing this petition. The commute on I-85 this evening was awful for the third day in a row. The impact of the conversion of the 15.5 mile stretch of I-85 from an HOV lane configuration to a toll lane is substantial.

In the span of just a few hours, we have nearly 50 petition signatures and traffic to the site continues to grow thanks solely to YOUR efforts to spread the word!

I will continue to post updates on (aka as this movement grows. Many additional efforts to take this cause to the next level are in progress.

How was this ever going to work? Car pool lanes give the incentive for people to share thereby taking more cars off all lanes of traffic - now its only rich bods that can afford to throw away a chunk of their hard earned pay packet that benefit. VERY UNFAIR

Traffic is way more congested, causing me to have to leave earlier for anywhere I travel on I-85. Was pushed down our throats!

Because this lane is a total disaster and unfair. Prices are being raised and we are having to pay just to avoid the increase in traffic for an already unbearable commute.

This is crap, traffic is worse. We need a transit system that works. Get with the times Atlanta!

the lanes were funded with federal funds to improve air quality. It had taken time, but more and more people were carpooling and traffic congestion was beginning to improve. People have a difficult time coordinating schedules for two people much less 3 or more. Now very few are using the HOT lanes and I will sit in traffic all day, which my commute time has doubled, before I will be double billed for roads. Our taxes have paid to build those lanes once, I refuse to pay to use them.
