On Sunday March 18, 2012 a young man lost his life. That young man was 24 year old Ruben Thomas. He was at work for Florida Corrections when an inmate stabbed him, he was later declared dead at the hospital. Ruben has a 1 year old daughter, a son on the way and a fiance. He also has a large family and many friends who will miss him dearly. If you care about the people who protect us and keep criminals off the street then you will sign this petition for the government to better help workers who deal with these horrible people on a daily basis.
To think that if conditions would've been better then maybe Rubens family would be celebrating his upcoming wedding instead of planning his funeral arrangements.
Let Rick Scott know that he needs to be putting more workers in the facilities instead of taking them out and taking away benefits. This just isn't important in Florida, but all over the United States. Our community needs to stand up for the officers that put their lives on the line everday for our protection. Why do actors make millions while theses people might make 40,000 dollars a year? You think that's fair? I know I don't.
Please, think about all the men and women who lose their lives because of protecting us and think about the families and friends that are left grieving. This Petition is not only for Ruben, but for all of the lost officers.

Because "they stand by the fence line late at night and say nothing is going to hurt you tonight...not on my watch" a quote from the movie A Few Good Men said by Demi Moore -- PERFECT for Corrections Officers.

17 years in Law Enforcement/Corrections...There was a time I was proud to put on a uniform and be what I am. That time has come and gone. Now I just want to make it to a point in my career that will allow me to leave it. Sadly, that may be a while yet since I still don't even come close to making the 40,000 dollars mentioned in the "About this Petition"...and Rick Scott is steadily whittling away at that...
