do not single out USF for massive spending cuts

    1. Petition by

      Largo, FL

The Florida Senate is proposing a total cut of $128 million to the University of South Florida, including a 60 percent cut to our appropriation for academic affairs. If passed, the cuts would be immediate and devastating to USF’s students, its research and its contribution to the economic recovery.

This cut is much greater than any other university is being asked to absorb. We have not seen any rationale of how these percentages were allocated in the Senate budget process.

These cuts would injure our students immediately, and they will strike a blow against economic recovery in the Tampa Bay region and the state.

Dear supporters, thank you for your involvement with this important issue. The Florida Senate has reversed its decision to sequester $25 million in funding to USF. However, the fight is not over. In fact, one could see the decision to reinstate the $25 million as an attempt by the FL Senate to take our eyes off the ball. USF STILL is taking a massive financial cut that is disproportionate to any other university. USF's cut is 44 percent, which is 10 percent higher than any other university. Moreover, after absorbing all the costs associated with USF Polytechnic the total impact is around $103 million. Accordingly, we need to keep up the pressure! Sign this petition to tell your state representatives, JD Alexander, and the rest of the FL Senate to keep the cuts to USF proportionate to other FL universities. Thanks for all you hard work thus far, and lets keep up the pressure.

As a Florida native I remain very closely tied to my home State. This move would be a mistake.

Apparently, and with impertinence to the human elements of his constituency, Lawrence supplants the growth in integrity that USF is finally realizing.

Because USF is not only my alma mater, not only the 3rd largest employer in the area, not only the driver of much innovation in Tampa Bay, but also an important part of the fabric of our community. J.D. Alexander needs to quit playing political games with our area's prosperity and future!

I am wanting to go to USF after I get my first degree in PSC. My major is Pharmacy and that is one of the places for cuts and this would end up changing my choice for college.
