A review into the purchase of Coventry City Fc by bidders SISU

      Coventry, United Kingdom

Administrators for Coventry City FC have just announced they plan to sell the club to Otium Entertainment Group – a company which has connections to SISU the current owners.

If the sale goes ahead the new owners intend to take CCFC out of the city for up to three years and build a new stadium outside of the jurisdiction of Coventry City Council. Home games will no longer be in Coventry.

In announcing the sale the administrator even admitted the move “will not necessarily be welcomed by a large number of Coventry City fans.”

The football league's motto is 'real football for real fans' but that looks very hollow at the moment. This petition is not just to stop the sale of Coventry City FC but to stop this from happening in the future.

The Football League as the power to stop this going ahead. They need to step in.

SISU placed the company into admin and appointed their own administrator for their gain while knowing they would win the final bidding process all along! There were far better bids put forward to the administrator Mr Appleton but he chose the SISU backed company. How can a company that was only established in 2011 with no assets and formed by two former Coventry City FC directors be able to bid for a club which is roughly £60 million in debt and that be considered as 'the best' offer for the club, it just doesn’t seem right.

The other final bidders all intended to purchase 50% of the Ricoh Arena and play there. A good stadium, as the 2012 Olympics proved, I'm sure you'll agree and a credit to the Football League. Now though, this 'new club' will probably get smaller gates than our neighbours Nuneaton Town and will never be able to compete in the structure in the way that it could had it been given the opportunity. The absolutely disgraceful episode of Wimbledon and MK Dons is rearing its ugly head again. 13,000+ supporters signed a petition to keep Coventry as a community club based in the city. I cannot believe that SISU can pass any fit and proper criteria!

SO IF YOU’RE A COVENTRY FAN OR NOT THIS WILL AFFECT THE WHOLE OF MIDLANDS FOOTBALL PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION AND LET'S GET SOMETHING SORTED.

      Dear Mr Roberts

Thank you for your email of 19 June, to the Rt Hon Hugh Robertson, regarding Coventry City FC, I have been asked to reply on behalf of the Minister.

We are sorry that the supporters of Coventry City FC have had to face such turmoil in off field dealings at their club over recent seasons, which, ultimately, will have an effect throughout the Club, including performances on the pitch.

Although, as I am sure you will understand, the Minister cannot comment on the specific points raised, the Government is concerned about instances of general financial mismanagement, and lack of transparency in ownership, and has been urging the football authorities to make changes to address these.

    4. REPLY FROM MP HUGH ROBERTSON OFFICE part 2

The Government recognise that football governance needs reforming and, whilst the Government has urged the football authorities to take ownership of the governance of the game, they will look at bringing forward legislation, if football does not make sufficient progress.

The Government welcomes the recent report from the Select Committee on football governance which shows the will there is across Parliament for football to modernise and change for the better. Ministers have been clear that they want the football authorities to carry out the reforms they promised by the start of the 2013-14 season – most notably around improved governance and diverse representation at the FA, the development of a licensing system and greater financial transparency.

    5. REPLY FROM MP HUGH ROBERTSON OFFICE! Part 3

It is hoped that the FA's proposed licensing system will address concerns around financial sustainability, ownership of clubs and supporter interests. There are a number of other recent developments which will help with progress on this subject. These include the FA’s, enhanced 'Owners' and Directors' Test', and professional football's move towards adopting the Financial Fair Play rules, which require football clubs, among other things, to introduce more discipline and rationality in club football finances and to encourage clubs to compete within their revenues.

The Minister continues to monitor this situation closely. Now that the Select Committee has concluded its deliberations, the Department is currently considering their report and will respond in due course.

      Kind regards

      Dear Mr Appleton

Below is a link for a online petition in which over 1,000 have signed in less than 2 hours, everyone who has signed have expressed there unhappiness at your decision to select a SISU business as the preferred buyer of CCFC! (Including non Coventry City fans)

It is also a direct request to both The FA and The FL for there immediate review of the bid and what is happening at the club in regards to current owners SISU.

Also if possible would you like to explain to us how you deem a company which has no assets and no capital which was only established in 2011 and has also failed to submit its accounts for this year as the preferred buyer for CCFC? When we believe there were far better bids on the table?

Here is the link to the petition.
