Hold a Public Inquiry into Pro-Israeli Bias

Many people believe that the BBC is biased in favour of Israel in its reporting; it is time for a Public Inquiry into this.

The BBC is a world respected media organisation, widely respected for its news and editorial coverage. However, whilst it is generally regarded as an serious, unbiased and authoritative source of news and comment, many feel that its coverage of events in the Middle East, specifically in relation Arab Israeli matters, and those relating to the Palestinian people in particular, shows continued bias in favour of Israel, in which the BBC fails to relate a complete and objective view and seems to portray a view that favours Israel and its government over that of other parties.

This bias appears to be endemic through the BBC's various news and editorial programmes and media. Whilst bias is something that might be expected of a privately owned media organisation, it is unacceptable in an organisation like the BBC, which has a unique status in being accountable to the British public.

Numerous individual complaints have been raised with the BBC regarding this over time. However, these by their nature generally relate to specific programmes and events, and would not address a much bigger problem of systematic bias.

This petition calls upon the Trustees of the BBC Trust to initiate a full, impartial and public inquiry into the way that the BBC reports on matters relating to Israel in relation to events in the Middle East, with the objective of establishing whether such bias exists and if so how this should be remedied on an enduring basis in the short and long term.

Thanks to you we are well on the way to reaching our target; however, we need to sustain the momentum. The situation in the Middle East may have eased; however, this issue remains and accurate and unbiased reporting is as vital as ever.

Please help to raise awareness of this issue by sharing this petition as widely as possible; text, email, post, tweet:

Thank you all again so much for signing!

Press bias is a serious barrier to justice and an impediment positive change.
Current events have highlighted the issue, which is an opportunity to try and effect a lasting change and support for the petition is strong and has continued to grow; however, with the perception that events in Gaza have eased it is inevitable that people cease to be as concerned. It is critical that we maintain momentum with this petition and reach a minimum of 10,000 signatures. Therefore I would like to ask you all to please post and forward the following to as many people as possible:

    6. Over Half Way!!! 5200 signatures and counting!!!

Wow, in just over three days our petition is over half way to target! An amazing effort!

Why now? Whilst the petition is directed at changing the way the BBC reports in the longer term, widespread support for the petition will also influence the way editors approach current events.

To make a compelling case it is important that we maintain momentum and reach our target as quickly as possible. 10,000 signatures is just enough to make the point credibily to the BBC Trust and other stakeholders, which is a great start; personally I think that many more share our view and I would like to see the target figure exceeded.

Another 1500 in just a few hours!

If you have not already done so, please share this petition as widely as you can; it would be really great if we could reach, or even exceed, the target of 10,000 signatures in just a few days, which would give the petition a better chance of having a real impact.

Thank you all so much for sparing the time to sign this petition.

Whilst there are very clearly more urgent priorirties at this time, the reason I think this is important is that media bias perpetuates global issues and has contributed to our continued tolerance of many situations around the world, not least the current situation in the Middle East. If we can change the way the BBC reports the issues, we can help change public perception and understanding, which may in help prompt a resolution of the real issues.

If you have not already done so, may I ask you to share this petition as widely as you can. For Facebook or Twitter why not post the following?

I have lost faith in the BBC news reporting due to their consistent bias in favour of frankly barbarous Israeli policies.

Because I am forced to pay the licence fee, when the BBC is Pro-Israeli. Supporting a State who Murder children in Gaza with impunity. I should be able to stop paying this, as I object strongly to this distgusting behaviour, which would not be tolerated, if commited by say: Iran, Syria, Cuba, Venezuala, or Russia. I want no part of this biased reporting.
