From Petition Creator: After a long battle in the Alabama legislature, Alabamians' voices were heard when HB27 passed the legislature during the last night of a contentious session. Speaking for animals which can't speak for themselves, thousands signed FOX10 News' petition and pushed lawmakers in the state to more stringently punish those who choose to abuse animals.

Animals in Alabama need our support! In Alabama, animal cruelty is classified as a Class B misdemeanor. We need Reps. Faust and McMillan to bring HB 698 back before the House so that we can increase penalties and establish the felony charge of aggravated animal cruelty - a designation that Alabama's statutes currently lack.

HB 698 would make "acts that are done knowingly or with criminal negligence to the prohibition" a Class A misdemeanor, and would designate the crime of felony Aggravated Animal Cruelty, defined as an "act of cruelty or neglect" that "was heinous, atrocious, cruel, or involved infliction of torture to the animal."

FOX10 News' Special Report: Cruel Crimes has more information:

Please join us in pushing for Baldwin County Representatives Faust and McMillan to reintroduce this much needed bill during the next legislative session.

This is important to me because animals deserve respect and to live in a world that protects them from harm. We MUST make the penalties worse for abusing animals, we are the only voiced they have!

I think animals are a gift from God. They are loyal, loving and a friend to anyone.

They imporove health conditions and in certain situations they will die for you. they do their best to keep you safe and alert you to dangers. This is how people repay this to the animal that has no sin or evil capablities in their DNA. What is wrong with people. I find it disgusting. We were given animals so that we may learn to love something other than ourselves. Apparently alot of people have alot of learning to do. If you treat your pet this way how do you treat your family. How can you put your head on your pillow or stuff food in your mouth when your pet regardless of type lays there hurt, hungry lonely and in need of medical attention. i think that if you harm or neglect an animal that you should have the book thrown at you and you should do time in jail. the animal didn't ask for you to find it or take it in. if you can't or won't care for the animal with the best intentions than give it to an organization that will.

I'm tired of seeing people who should not have pets get pets. There are dogs and cats running around the streets waiting to be killed and run over. Pet ownership is a responsibility. If you can't handle it, then you shouldn't have a pet. Animal cruely comes in all shapes and forms.

Because some people have no business having pets...they need to be held accountable for abusing them, This needs to be taken seriously...
