Telluride Ski Area CEO: Manage uphill skiing and hiking comparable to all other Colorado ski areas

The public should be allowed to recreate on their national lands with as few restrictions as possible. Uphill skiing and hiking is encouraged, supported and managed pre season, during the season and post season at every major ski resort in Colorado. A policy that provides spot closures where and when necessary should be adopted. The entire Telluride ski area should never be closed to uphill skiing and hiking at any time.

    1. First Ever Pre-Season Hiking Closure

Thanks to everyone who has signed! I tried hard through the summer and had gotten some traction with the VP Operations of the ski area. I hoped we were moving towards a reasonable solution that would bring Telluride more in line with nearly every other ski resort in the world. Unfortunately she suddenly resigned and now it's back to square one. We need your help. Write letters or speak to the papers, ski area, forest service, local government. Make it clear that this must change. Get your friends on board, use facebook, etc. If we make enough noise this will get changed!

Thank you to all who have signed. Your voices are being heard and you are making a difference! You have made it clear that this is an important issue for a large number of people. As a result, a very encouraging dialog has just opened up with the ski company. I'm hopeful that a more reasonable policy for uphill ski touring and hiking pre season, during the season and post season may be achievable. I'll post updates on the progress here. Meanwhile please sign the petition (if you haven't already signed), encourage your friends and contacts to sign and spread the word! Tell the ski company and forest service that we want to be able to enjoy ski touring and hiking on the ski area here in Telluride in the same way it is enjoyed at all of the other major ski resorts in Colorado.

We've had a great response and many people are asking that a reasonable policy allowing year round uphill hiking and skiing be adopted. Telluride has a far more restrictive policy than any other ski resort in Colorado. That's unnecessary and just not right. We can get this changed if our collective voice gets loud and persistent enough. Forward this to all of your friends and contacts. Post it on your facebook walls. Keep getting the word out!

Let's keep the momentum going! Post on your friends Facebook Wall. Email to your contacts list. Keep getting the word out. Together, we can get this changed.

      Thank you!!

I Strongly believe that the public should always be able to hike on National forest service land, telluride ski area should never be closed to hiking and skiing itself.

Uphill training is a valid and viable use of the ski area. It's becoming more popular by the day. The ski area should be in tune with and evolve with the sport.
