Tell @Sainsburys and @Waitrose: No Monsanto products in UK Supermarkets!

      Southsea, United Kingdom

We are concerned that you sell Bellaverde® broccoli. This is a flagship Monsanto food product.  Monsanto is the world’s largest GMO company and has been voted "The Worst Company of 2011" by Natural Society.

Your corporate and social responsibility statements claim that you care about the environment, particularly responsible development, sustainability and sourcing with integrity. However, by stocking these products you are supporting the #1 genetically modified (GMO) food company in the world.  Monsanto has received international criticism and legal action for it's negative impact on biodiversity, human rights violations and environmentally destructive practices, including the illegal dumping of toxic waste right here in the UK.

The people of the UK have voiced a resounding "NO" to genetically modified food. We ask you to please stop helping this dangerous and irresponsible company from gaining a foothold here in the United Kingdom. Stop selling Monsanto food.

We've got 1119 signatures, but only 39 confirmed guests to the twitter bomb? Maybe people aren't aware that we're doing it, so here's the thing:

We're mass tweeting some green celebrities! There are 2 positive outcomes we're looking for:

#1 - Convince a celebrity or two to support our movement, maybe sign the petition, share to their social media followers, etc... This will increase give us a high profile boost in signatures and media visibility.

#2 - Start a trending topic. If enough people tweet with hashtags #SayNoToMonsanto and #NoMonsantoUK, we will be visible in the trending topics and attract a ton of clicks to see what we're all about.

To take part, check out the event: https://www.facebook.com/events/231689390256794/

Anyone with Twitter account can take part, just click on each link one by one, then click the re-tweet button and voila! You don't need Facebook to attend the event, but if you do have Facebook, then please click the attend button as well.

    5. Week 1: 1000+ signatures! Keep the momentum going.

Well day 4 is drawing to a close and we have almost reached our original target. I'm so glad we decided to raise the target! Thank you all so much for your support, we are really making a difference.

If your looking for a great way to get involved and spread the word even more, then why not join The Faces of No Monsanto UK? We've created a flickr photostream, at http://bit.ly/yoAaGG, of our supporters and we're also going to turn it into a YouTube video. This way, Waitrose and Sainsbury's can see the faces of the people they are turning their backs on by not ending their support of Monsanto.

To join, simply take a photo of yourself with #SayNoToMonsanto in the picture with you, and upload it to our Facebook wall: http://www.facebook.com/Say.No.To.Monsanto
or tweet it with the hashtag #NoMonsantoUK

Thank you all for your continued support. Waitrose started with an open dialog with us, but then banned us from the notes on their facebook page and closed the page they had opened to communicate with all of you. We're going to keep spreading the word until they have no choice but to listen to us!

Now you can really help spread the word on Twitter, here's how:

The admins on the Facebook page are all on Twitter, our usernames are:
      @Get_Silly , @doxtor , @thegriffter

#SayNoToMonsanto add this to EVERY post relevant to the campaign.

su.pr/16L3FB use this to link to the petition

t.co/Fphgknzp use this to link to the facebook page

A great first tweet to post is:
RT: Pls support us 2get Monsanto out of supermarkets. Like t.co/Fphgknzp & Sign su.pr/16L3FB #SayNoToMonsanto

Thanks again to all of you for your continued support.

We now are just under 700 signatures in 48 hours. Since we are likely to hit the original target of 1000 signatures tomorrow (if our momentum carries on). I have raised the target by adding a zero at the end. We are now aiming for 10,000 signatures by April 20th. We have also had 3 mentions in the online news world, plus Mark Price (Managing Director for Waitrose) has already responded to our message. So far they are saying they will continue to sell these products, so we must continue to work. The more people we can enlighten, educate, and encourage to help, the more likely we will be to change their minds. Please check out the facebook page to find those articles:

I came home from work and saw over 250 signatures! Simply amazing. I immediately began working on the Facebook Page, and as soon as I published I came back for a signature count and we're at over 300! The Facebook Page is now live, please like it and share it with friends. It's open to post on the wall, but will be moderated to keep the message focussed. Please feel free to post anything related to Monsanto and their unethical / environmentally destructive / illegal business practices. Let's keep working to educate our friends and family about this company and get them on board the campaign as well!

Wow, thank you so much for your support. I can't begin to tell you how excited I am by these results in just the first few hours of this campaign. It shows that loads of people care about British agriculture and the food that we feed ourselves and our children. Recent campaigns have won big victories over Monsanto in getting them to withdraw their operations from the UK. Don't let that lull you into a sense of security! If their products are on the shelves, they're capable of building a demand for them. If enough people buy them, then they'll have an incentive to open up their hideous operations here again. We've got to get the word out about these specific brands and petition our supermarkets to SAY NO TO MONSANTO FOOD!

It is so important that we get all traces of this dangerous company away from the UK. They are far worse than just a GMO company, they have badly damaged our environment in the past. They knowingly dumped dangerous toxic waste in Wales for 7 years (see link)
