Tell Herman Cain: Being Gay is Not a Choice

    1. Sponsored by

      Human Rights Campaign

GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain went on ABC's "The View" recently and told the audience that being gay is a choice, recycling an outdated lie that's been debunked over and over again by leading medical organizations.

"You show me the science that says that it's not," Mr. Cain demanded, saying that he "could be persuaded" and that it's all "just a difference of opinion."

Well, Mr. Cain, you might just be in luck. Dr. Jack Drescher, a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and an expert on the subject, has offered to meet with Mr. Cain to show him hard evidence that being gay isn't a choice – a dangerous lie that gives undue credence to harmful practices like reparative therapy.

And now, he is saying he would support an amendment to the Constitution that would make it impossible for committed, loving same-sex couples to marry – and receive all the benefits that come with it.

Will you send a letter to Herman Cain now calling on him to meet with Dr. Drescher right away and retract his dangerous statement? If he wants proof, we'll give him proof!

I am signing because my partner and I believe that whether its a choice or not- be who you want to be. It is no ones business but your own and God's to whom you love and choose to be with. Thats all, there is no reason for kids to be mirroring adults who bully and antagonize the GLBT community. If you want to set a good example then be a positive role model- not a negative role model in society.

Being gay is a choice.. Never in the history of mankind has anyone ever been born gay. Even if you have conflicting feelings, God would not send you a challenge that you can't handle. If you choose to live in sin, than yes, you are gay. If you decide instead to follow Christ, then set aside the sins of the flesh, and follow his word. No one can force you to have sex, if they did we call it rape, and its illegal as well as prosicutable. Until the day someone can show me that they'll die without sex, stop trying to shove your lies and lifestyle on the rest of us.

To suggest that gay folks - male or female - would opt for a life of ostracism and abuse is ridiculous; the evidence is strongly to the contrary. Mr Cain is digging his own grave with this kind of nonsense, politically speaking, yet the effect of this kind of bigotry is enduring and uncontrollable. Mr Cain needs to think before he speaks.

Homosexuality is not a choice. Acting on one's homosexuality is a choice just as acting on one's heterosexuality is. It is possible to refrain from acting upon one's sexuality but no one should have to do so against their will.
