The Memorial City Texas location of southern department store giant Dillard's is set to sponsor an April fundraiser for Heroic Media, the company behind a series of racist anti-abortion billboards popping up across the country.
One of Heroic Media’s billboards features an image of a Black child next to the words, “The most dangerous place for an African American is in the womb.” Some include a phone number for a crisis pregnancy center, which are ideologically driven, non-medical outfits that use misinformation and scare tactics to convince women not to choose abortion.
According to a report at The American Independent, Dillard's will outfit 10 Heroic Media supporters in nautical-themed outfits for a fashion show fundraiser. Proceeds will go toward erecting the controversial, race-baiting billboards in the Houston area.
Dillard's Memorial City store manager Stephen Brophy claims the choice to sponsor the event isn’t ideologically motivated. “We try to not get too political,” Brophy told The American Independent. “We’re about fashion. We try to appeal to the masses.”
Heroic Media’s billboards are not about fashion – they are about using a racist message that insinuates Black women are ill-equipped to make choices about their bodies and are, by their very existence, dangerous. Heroic Media’s billboards are not for the masses, either. Last month, a billboard purchased by Life Always – owned by the founder of Heroic Media – sporting the same race-baiting message was erected in New York City and taken down almost immediately due to an outcry from the community.
Sign the petition to tell Dillard's to cancel their sponsorship of the Heroic Media fundraiser immediately.
