Target: Take the high road and save Thanksgiving

I have worked at Target for six years and I really enjoy my job. Thanksgiving, though, is one of the three days us retail workers get off a year: a day most all of us spend with family we only get to see on that day. I have no problem with Black Friday. I thought it was interesting the first year I worked the 4am opening. Last year's opening at midnight was pushing it. By the time I left around 8am, I was absolutely exhausted.

I am a recent transplant to California with my boyfriend. I don't have any family out here and having to work on Black Friday prevents me from going home to the east coast to see my family. My boyfriend does have some family out here so Thanksgiving is the one day we get to spend with people we know. I currently work two jobs, substitute teaching and work Target at nights and weekends, so having Thanksgiving off really does give me that one day to relax and visit family I otherwise have no time to see.

I just heard that one of Target's top competitors, Walmart, will open at 8pm on Thanksgiving this year. Since workers need to show up sometimes hours before the story officially opens, this will take much of Thanksgiving away from retail employees across the country. Target can take the high road and save Thanksgiving for employees like me and our families by saying no to "Thanksgiving Creep."  Will you join me and ask Target to give Thanksgiving back to families and not open on Thanksgiving evening?

Just one more reason i don't like Target and refuse to shop there. Treating employees poorly...all to line the fat pockets of the higer-up. Bet those lining their pockets with profits from this ridiculous rule get to spend their Thanksgiving with their family and friends. FOR ONCE.. TARGET... PLEASE HAVE SOME HEART!!!!!

This is important because at this rate, what's to stop them from doing the same thing on Christmas as well? Especially with people trying to get that last minute gift. Thanksgiving is a day meant to be spent with family. If it's a voluntary option, that's one thing, but to put it on the schedule as a regular day of work... I can't support a business that operates in this manner. I normally only get to visit a Target store once a month (none where I live), however I usually stock up when I go. If I see that Target will be open at any point on Thanksgiving Day, I will never step foot on any of their properties ever again.

The only way to stop this is stay at home with your family. No Black Friday for me.
