Target: Don't take away Thanksgiving!

Family has always been important to me and Thanksgiving is all about family. I love seeing family that we haven't seen in years and spending time with each other on the only day when we can all get together. Last year, it became clear to me that for some large retailers, this holiday isn't about family or being grateful at all.

My brother has worked at Target for years. To my family, Thanksgiving would not be complete without him. After opening on midnight on Thanksgiving last year, many retailers are opening even earlier this year. Walmart announced that they will open at 8pm on Thanksgiving this year. I'm worried that Target will join too and my brother will miss our traditional Thanksgiving dinner (especially if he has to work a double shift). It's not just my family either -- think about the mothers that will not able to serve dinner for their loved ones or kiss their children good night on such a special night.

Don't let Target take away Thanksgiving! Will you join me in asking Target to do the right thing for families like mine and stay closed on Thanksgiving?

Target Families Petition Against Early Black Friday

Retailers are pushing the envelope again this Thanksgiving with earlier store openings, bringing jeers from some employees who say they would prefer to spend the holiday with their families. Target announced on Monday that it's opening on Thanksgiving at 9 p.m. at some stores for its Black Friday sale, which in the past began the day after Thanksgiving.

This morning I checked my petition and had 15 signatures literally 20 mins later I had 96!!! This is awesome I am truly in awwa of the support of so many people whom I have never met. This really shows how importance of time spent with those with we love. We don't have an crazy traditions and we only see one a family member from and Texas a few times a year, but I love both of my brothers very much and value the time spent with them especially on Thanksgiving.

Retailers will make enough money this holiday season without stealing the holidays from their employees.

Target is about making life better for the middle class. Shopping on Thanksgiving doesn't make life better - it makes it worse for consumers and employees.

It is the ethos of our culture. If it is truely volountary but they need 10 to correctly staff the store but only get 6 volounteers then what happens. Bet you 4 are forced to come in!!!

I work at Toys R Us on Amherst New York. Last year, we opened at 10 pm on Thanksgiving; this year, we're open even earlier, at 8 pm. What will happen next year - will stores just start staying open the whole day on Thanksgiving and not let their employees take off to spend time with their families? This is ridiculous; we need to draw the line somewhere on all this consumerism. I agree with everyone else: this is a day to spend time with family and take a break from all of the craziness that employees experience during the rest of the Christmas season. Is being able to buy a bunch of stuff really more important than letting people spend time with each other?

Despite it being a recognized holiday, Thanksgiving is about family and friends and ALL employees should be able to have the ENTIRE day off.
