Victory

Robert M. Beren Academy is pleased to announce that the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) has informed us that they will reschedule to permit the RMBA team to play this Friday without violating our Sabbath. We are thankful to the TAPPS for ultimately making the right decision. The school administration and board was not involved in any legal action and we regret that it took a lawsuit filed parents to bring about this decision. We greatly appreciate the strong outpouring of support from so many. Nearly 7000 people have signed this petition in the last 3 days! We particularly want to acknowledge the many member schools in TAPPS who supported efforts to change the schedule to enable our boys to play. The Beren Stars look forward to competing in the state semi-final round tomorrow afternoon. Peace Love and Laughter Barry Mueller

An Orthodox Jewish high school basketball team from Houston is out of the Basketball playoffs after losing its appeal to change a state semifinal game time that conflicted with its observation of the Sabbath.

Thank you for all the support! Who knew that in less than 24 hours we could get 3,000 signatures for our petition?
Fun fact: our petition was mentioned on Yahoo! http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/highschool-prep-rally/orthodox-jewish-high-school-team-forfeits-rather-play-122913038.html
Update: We understand that 2 years ago a different school had been given a change of time in soccer playoffs a couple of years ago in order that they didn’t have to play on Saturday. Unfortunately according to Director of TAPPS Edd Burleson TAPPS got many many more complaints then compliments.
Help us assure Mr. Burleson that we will get many many more compliments than complaints by getting us to 9,000 people. If we all get 2 more people to sign it we will have that many by the end of the night!
No matter what happens the Beren players should be proud of themselves as they have been keeping their head high throughout this so far disappointing process.
      Peace Love and Laughter

Our religious freedoms are getting trampled on. As a Christian with Jewish ancestry I am appalled by the treatment of the team. It's a lot like when Eric Liddle would not race on a Sunday during the Olympics. The Beren Stars deserve to play!

This action was probably stupidity and most liklely discriminatory.

I'm signing in to offer support for the boys basketball team. God moved on your behalf because you put Him ahead of your on interest.
