Our communities are crumbling. Many of our neighbors struggle to find work. At the same time we are losing valuable resources, Corporations are sitting on $2 trillion in cash but failing to invest in jobs.
Right now, 30% of California’s bridges are structurally deficient or functionally obsolete. 68% of California’s urban highways are congested and 66% of the state’s roads are in need of repair. One in four people in Los Angeles County are unemployed or underemployed. Corporations have thrown thousands of Angelinos out of their jobs in the past several months.
The American Jobs Act, proposed by President Obama, would save or create 125,400 California jobs – including jobs building California’s roads, highways, bridges and mass-transit; jobs preventing layoffs of California’s teachers, police and firefighters; and jobs fixing California’s crumbling schools.
Unfortunately, the U.S. Senate chose to stand with the 1%. They voted to kill the jobs bill, which cost California thousands of potentially good jobs.
Please help bridge the gap between community needs and community resources. Support the Jobs Act as a first step toward putting Angelenos back to work.
Your pledge of support will be delivered to Congressional members and corporations that we are working to hold accountable. Let them know that you will stand with your community and will hold them accountable.
