For too long local Community Education Councils have not been included in the discussion to co-locate schools in public school buildings. CECs need to be part of the group considering the placements of schools before the fact, not idle bystanders.

Because charter schools are not adequately staffed or prepared to deal with children with disabilities. It is unfair that they should take away much needed space from students that they don't have the capacity to serve.

Decisions like these should not be made without community input. For too long, decisions are made and then a show is put on to allow people to speak. However, the decisions have already been made and community input is too late.

Privatization is transfers public money to private hands. I am a former school teacher and totally opposed to the use of charter schools as a vehicle for privatization. The whole concept of charter schools has become distorted, when once it was a fine idea for experimental programs. This take-over of public property and funding which destroys the public school system is worthy of the period of the robber barons of the "Gilded Age" in American history.

Community Education Councils should have a say in MANY more policy decisions in this city. Say for example, they should elect the members of the PEP, rather than having the majority of them appointed by one person, the mayor. Then we could claim to have a democratic governing structure, modestly in line with the ideals of this country's founders, rather than the monarchy we have now.

I am signing because for far too long the re-location or displacement of students with special needs has gone on with no consideration given to the neediest and most fragile students in our education system in NYC.
