StopNYcanalcuts

    1. Petition by

      New Yorkers Against Canal Cuts

Eliminating the jobs of more than three dozen dedicated Canal System workers will undermine tourism, canal usage, service to boaters and canal maintenance and upkeep. It will make our great Canal System harder to navigate and enjoy.

To:
Andrew Cuomo, New York Governor
Stop the unnecessary layoff of dedicated New York Canal Corporation workers. Don't undermine tourism, service to boaters, or the proper upkeep of our Canal System. Please keep our Canal System fully funded for all New Yorkers to enjoy!

Sincerely,
[Your name]

Here's a well-written letter to the editor about these job cuts.

The majority of layoffs at the NYS Canal Corporation are hitting canal lock operators

To the Editor: We all read last week about the New York State Thruway Authority laying off 192 full-time employees and the state Canal Corp. laying off 42 full-time employees statewide. What was not reported was that the majority of the 42 employees being laid off at the Canal Corp.

My fiancé lost his job. He was a great worker and is greatly missed. He had been with the canal almost 20 years.
