Stop the viewing of pornography in Public Libraries.

Libraries should never be forced to use public or government funds to provide access to pornography. Libraries should be sanctuaries for people of all ages.  They should provide an atmosphere of safety and learning for our children. The viewing of pornography changes the atmosphere in the library not only for patrons but for the employees of the library. We must always balance the individual's freedoms with the needs of the ENTIRE community. We hope that we can find a solution that will protect all of the patrons of the library from seeing any sexually obscene and/or explicit material.

Since we have reached 300 signatures in such a short time, we have raised our goal to 500. We are reaching out to our communities in Selah, Naches, East Valley, Union Gap and Terrace Heights this next week as well. A call-in day is scheduled for September 24th. Call our downtown library and speak to our Deputy Director, Linda McCracken @452-8541 or email our Board of Trustees at: boardoftrustees@yvl.org Let them know of your concern over the current internet policy regarding the viewing of pornography in our libraries that are being run with Federal grant money and tax payer money. Again we need to balance the individual's freedoms with the needs of the ENTIRE community.

Our city and community has chased away a strip club and tried to shut down the sex-espresso shops. But viewing pornography in public is okay? Masturbating to it in public gets you a "please leave." At least the strip club was an adult only building. It didn't have children 10 feet away reading Clifford the Big Red Dog.
