Stop the Montreal-Portland Pipeline Reversal!

Canada's Enbridge and the Portland-Montreal Line Co., are planning to reverse the flow of the Montreal-Portland pipeline so that tar sands oil can be shipped out of Portland Harbor.

This project might as well be called Keystone XL East!

This project would threaten the following pan-American treasures at risk:

The Grand River Basin- a designated Canadian Heritage River and home to more that 215 at-risk species
Lake Ontario- a vital link in the Great River chain that provides bounty to millions of Americans and Canadians
The Saint Lawrence River- the source of half of Quebec's drinking water and a seasonal home for blue whales
Victory State Forest: a habitat for Vermont moose and migratory birds
The Connecticut River- a waterway that drains one-third of New England’s landscape and runs through both Springfield, Mass. and Hartford, Connecticut's state capital
The Androscoggin River- a popular waterway that runs through New Hampshire and Maine
Sebago Lake- home to a native species of Atlantic salmon and the major drinking supply for Portland, Maine's largest metropolitan area
Casco Bay- a large and important marine estuary

This plan would endanger the lives and livelihood of millions of Americans and Canadians, as well as countless miles of beautiful land and an untold number of protected species. Sign this petition and save our wildlife, water and way of living!

    1. BREAKING: ExxonMobil Revealed as Majority Owner of PMPL!

ExxonMobil is the main backer of the Portland-Montreal Pipeline! That's right, Exxon Valdez, global warming denial funding, dictatorship-backing EXXONMOBIL is trying to bring tar sands through New England!!!

Please keep Exxon from wrecking the region by getting AT LEAST THREE OTHER PEOPLE TO SIGN! Thank you.

WE'VE HIT 500 SIGNATURES! Thanks to everyone who has signed and shared this petition! We're shooting for 1000 SIGNATURES BY THE END OF THE MONTH, and WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Line 9, the portion of the project going through Ontario, Canada into Quebec. The pipeline then goes into New England from Montreal into Portland Maine, through Vermont and New Hampshire.

The pipeline goes over the Connecticut and St. Lawrence Rivers, which feed into the Great Lakes and hundreds of tributaries, as well as the Atlantic Ocean. Even the smallest failure in this line -highly likely, with dozens of tar sands line spills every month- affects thousands!

So SIGN AND SHARE THIS PETITION WITH EVERYONE YOU KNOW! Protect our wildlife, water and way of life.

      Thank you!

We're doing pretty well, but we need AT LEAST 10,000 signatures before we can stop this pipeline. Our next goal is 500 signatures, and we can easily reach this with a little help spreading the word.

This is what we like to see! With 200 signatures, we're a blip on the radar at least. But ifthe powers that be are going to take us seriously, we need at least a thousand signatures. We must involve the people of Canada and make a grassroots, person-to-person campaing in the Neighborhoods of New England and across the Eastern half of New England.

Now is the time to aspire to higher heights! Start sharing the petition on Facebook, tweeting it, blogging it, handing out in-person petitions! Print a bunch out, hand them to your friends! NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT!

Thank you all so much and keep up the great work!

    8. AN OUTRAGE:

      Miles Wilkerson

On Teusday the 19th of this month, a THIRD Enbridge pipeline broke in THE SPAN OF ONE MONTH. So much for safe, reliable energy, right? This spill leakeda 230,000 metric liters -that's more that SIXTY THOUSAND LIQUID GALLONS- onto pristine wilderness and economically viable Alberta farmland.

We can only imagine what a spill like this would do to New England.

THIS IS URGENT! We only have until late fall before the pipeline is constructed -assuming Enbridge's estimates are correct-, and we need at least 10,000 signatures before we even BEGIN to make our point. TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS PIPELINE! Share it on Facebook! Tweet it! Email it! Tell people in person! Print out the petition and gather signatures!

      We MUST stop this pipeline!

    9. 150 SIGNATURES!

Mayflower Arkansas is a graphic illusration of what will go wrong with this proposal. I see no useful purpose in ruing 3 states and the province of Quebec just to feed Exxon's greed. Enough is enough.

I believe Canada and America need to seek energy independence. And, we also need to STOP INVESTING IN OLD TECHNOLOGY AND DIRTY FOSSIL FUELS. Last year, I met a teenage girl from Canada who expressed fear for her future as she witnesses tar sands development in her country. She is right. The cost is too high FOR BOTH OUR ENVIRONMENT AND OUR ECONOMIES. Climate change is real and increasing tar sands production by reversing this pipeline will have a catastrophic impact. In addition, this approach will not create as many jobs as our shared investment in RENEWABLE ENERGY. Stand up for citizens and our future - NOT today’s BIG OIL profits!!!! Canada deserves better! America deserves better! Demand a new energy future for our countries (and our children) that is based on RENEWABLES!

Don't need the dirty/polluting/carbon dioxide-"enhancing" oilecosytme destroying oil. Need get the ecosystems intact. Invest in integrated "alternative" power system of Windpower/solar/geothermaI invest and and develope that now. Wasting time with $$ invested oil. Time is running close to "OUT".
