Stop the imminent execution of Troy Davis!

Stop the imminent execution of Troy Davis!

    1. Petition by

      Amnesty International USA

Troy Davis is scheduled to be executed by the state of Georgia on September 23, even though his serious claims of innocence have never been heard in court.

Take action now to stop the execution!

The case has been tainted from the start, with a questionable police investigation, a lack of funding to ensure adequate defense, and an increasingly restrictive appeals process, which has thwarted attempts to present new evidence in the case.

No murder weapon was found
and no physical evidence linked Davis to the crime.

Troy Davis was convicted of murder solely on the basis of witness testimony, and seven of the nine non-police witnesses have since recanted or changed their testimony, several citing police coercion. Others have signed affidavits implicating one of the remaining two witnesses as the actual killer.

Please take action right away to stop this injustice.  And then forward this action to your friends.  We really need to get as many messages as we can to the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles to stop this travesty of justice.

As always, thanks for taking action.

It is important to give Troy a new trial based on the evidence that exists today. Troy Davis deserves a fair trial. It is not justice to execute the wrong man for this crime of murder. A person should have to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt before they receive a sentence.

Perhaps the next petition/action needs to be called "Stop the MURDER of Troy Davis"!!!! Maybe that will wake more people up. I think it is too late for "face-saving", which is what "diplomacy" is all about. It sure looks like murder to me. Am I "bad-mouthing" to call it what it looks like?
I have been signing petitions for Troy for many months it seems. I expect a new one in my inbox each round of this situation. I agree with Susy, there does seem to be a CONSCIOUS INTENT to kill Troy a.s.a.p.!! It's pre-meditated attempted murder. Why?!? What's the hurry?? What do they gain from it? Hurry up and kill him to get rid of the evidence? Are they envious or something? What is it????!!!! I think it might be useful to understand what their problem is.
Bill Moyers is right, the lunatic fringe has come to sit at the centers of power over others. sheeeesh!

IMPORTANT UPDATE  from Amnesty International :

"The state of Georgia seems determined to kill Troy Davis. But your thousands of calls, faxes and emails have sent a powerful message that such an injustice is totally unacceptable. Georgia officials need to keep hearing your voice.

Despite this mounting evidence in favor of Troy’s freedom, he continues to wait on death row.
We are anxiously awaiting the court’s response to the latest round of arguments in Troy’s case that could be handed down at any moment. So the fate of Troy Davis is still very much in limbo."

The most I could do besides phoning in my thoughts was publish one of those "Letters To The Editor" in my local newspaper. Don't know if I had any impact.
