Taiji had a little secret and now that secret is out in the open. Please sign and share this petition with everyone you know.

As the Day of the Dolphin approaches, September 1, 2014, so does the herding and slaughter season which  starts on Sept. 1, 2014. The dolphins are hunted and driven into the Killing Cove by the Fishermen's Union of Taiji, using banger boats to steer them. Once in the Cove a net is drawn behind them and a few of them (if they are nice specimens they are taken into captivity), those that are not selected, are systematically slaughtered.

The dead dolphins are then taken via skiffs to the gutting barge, the bodies of the dead dolphins are then taken to the butcher house. The meat is sold to the citizens of Japan fraudulently  labelled as "whale" and served as lunch to children in school. Dolphin and whale meat is highly toxic. It contains high levels of the heavy metal, Mercury which has already produced 2 major outbreaks of Minamata disease and causes mental retardation.

This is the largest  dolphin slaughter in the world and unfortunately very few people know it even takes place. Even in Japan, not many people are aware that this atrocity occurs.

The Taiji dolphin hunts continue because the fishermen make immense profits from selling some of their victims to the captive dolphin industry. Government officials also allow the hunt because they consider the dolphins to be pests that eat and deplete the fish stocks around Taiji. Dolphin Base Resort houses all the captive Dolphins and they are held in sea pens or concrete pools. Training starts immediately as food is withheld from them until they start to cooperate or they starve to death. The blood-stained sea and panicked screams of the dying dolphins will no longer continue to fall on deaf ears, as animal advocates worldwide  will make sure that their cries are heard.

On August 31, 2012 there will be a global event to bring awareness to the plight of the dolphin.

It is up to everyone, especially travelers visiting Japan, to spread the word. THE TIME HAS COME FOR THE WORLD TO STOP BEING SILENT AND TAKE A STAND!!

I strongly believe that the slaughter of these incredible creatures is unnecessary and barbaric. I can't believe we live in a world where this is allowed to happen. It's truly heart breaking.

It is barbaric. It causes unnecessary suffering. It kills all generations of a family.

The herding, slaughter starts soon. The sale of these dolphins into captivity is a mortal crime. It has to stop once and for all. I don't know how these Fishermen/murderers can sleep at night. Looking into the dolphins terrorized eye's as they coldly stab them ...and hearing the cries as they call out to each other. STOP THIS! :(
