Stop shark killing for fun.

It's important because sharks are important to our oceans and killing for the fun of it to see who can catch the biggest shark is just lunacy. We need to preserve our planets animals and the big ones have been around for years and deserve to live many more. It's like the big game animals in Africa, we've almost killed them all off and now we are working on the sea creatures, shame!! It has to stop today. This is what I am petitioning:
The 25th Annual Oak Bluffs Monster Shark Tournament on the harbor in Oak Bluffs is the preeminent sportfishing event of the 2011 Summer Tournament series. As always, expect world-class sportfishing, fine dining and excitement for all. The top five finishers will be awarded with a variety of highly valuable prizes and awards. Whether you're a prominent angler with a top placing boat from a previous year or just getting started in tournament fishing, you will want to be part of the excitement. Please join the Boston Big Game Fishing Club with your friends and family.

What kind of prize could be highly valuable for this tournament? The 325 pound shark? A trophy? No thanks. I don't see the fun in this, I see murder and it's just as bad as the dolphins in Japan, the whales and the shark finning...it's all for greed! There's no fun in greed.

    22. Thresher Sharks

      marianne woods

Thresher sharks are solitary creatures which keep to themselves. When hunting schooling fish, thresher sharks are known to "slap" the water, herding and stunning prey.
Threshers have a low fecundity and are therefore highly vulnerable to overfishing.

Many shark species of shark will be extinct within a decade, including species targetted by sport fishermen. What will they catch when there are none left? Time for Catch & Release to keep the numbers up.

Is it so difficult to release a shark alive after catching it & taking a photo? There are fewer & fewer sharks in the world's oceans & these sport fishermen aren't helping the populations recuperate if they take out all the adult breeding animals.

With the rapid decline of shark populations these last few decades, every individual shark is important for the perennity of its species. Recreational anglers target those larger, mature animals who could replenish those numbers- in fact, many a shark caught in these "tourneys" are pregnant females. Encourage, Catch,Tag & Release tourneys- help science help the sharks.

Please, for all our sakes, we need to stop killing sharks because we are decimating shark numbers. Let's start managing global shark fishing so that it is sustainable. Otherwise we will soon see our oceans without sharks and the marine ecosystem completely out of whack. Its all so needless and completely in our power to solve.
