To:
Florida State House
Florida State Senate
I am writing to express my position against SB 1854, requiring a so-called "critical analysis" of evolutionary theory in pre K-12 education in Florida. Please vote against this measure should it come to a vote.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

This is nothing but warmed-over creationism, and a step backward for Florida and for the United States.

Dear Senators: I wish to convey my strong opposition to SB 1854. There is a tremendous amount of scientific evidence in favor of evolution. And the idea of natural selection, i.e. the theory describing how evolution happens, has passed copious experimental tests. Indeed that is why it is called a "theory" in the scientific sense -- just as we have the "theory of gravity," the "atomic theory," and the "cell theory." There is no significant scientific controversy on any of these ideas. Changing the state's science curriculum to force extra "critical analysis" of evolution would be pointless, waste money, bring world-wide ridicule to our state, and leave our students even less prepared for the technological and scientific jobs of the future. I urge you to defeat SB 1854.

Thank you very much for your consideration.

The united states is not a theocracy, therefor there is no room for a back door bill such as this. The implications of "controversy" in the bill are unfounded and nothing more than rhetoric handed down from The Discovery Institute. If parents want to teach their children creationism, they can do it in the comfort and control of their own home. In the meantime, let the teachers teach the almost universally accepted theory of evolution.

Please vote to SB1854. "Critical analysis" is already provided in the Science Standards. The passage of this bill will bring about expensive lawsuits and will keep technology oriented businesses from coming to Florida. Our children deserve good, solid science in schools. The Standards provide this. Please vote NO on this bill.

      Thank you,

Florida should collectively be ashamed for even considering anti-evolution legislation.
