It is about justice

Our sisters and brothers living with HIV/AIDS, and many others, that are legitimately diagnosed as disabled are suffering needlessly as a result of insurance companies routinely denying claims to maintain 'acceptable' returns for their stockholders. Lobbyists have ensured there is virtually no law protecting the consumer in the private disability industry.

Senate hearings, now a memory

The U.S. Senate Finance Committee held a hearing last year entitled, “Do Private Long-Term Disability Policies Provide the Protection They Promise?”

Senator Max Baucus (D-Mont) cited “abusive insurance company tactics start with having doctors with conflicts of interest review claims. Many of these doctors are employed either by the insurance company or by companies that do a lot of business with the insurance company. These arrangements make it far too easy for the doctors to deny claims, terminate claims, or reject appeals.”

Where the buck stops

Fortune 200 Lincoln National Corp (NYSE: LNC) subsidiary, Lincoln Financial Group, has a pattern of denying legitimate disability claims using inexperienced 'expert' doctors and other means.

In Australia people living with HIV/AIDS by federal law may not be discriminated against by insurance companies and are covered by Medicare Australia when seeking medical or hospital treatment, eye examinations and prescriptions filled under a Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. It is outrageous that the US government allows such discrimination to be practised by the country's insurance industry which is being highlighted by this petition. In fairness it should follow Australia's lead.

There is so much discrimination against gay, lesbian, transgender and HIV/AIDS people around the world that any attempt to stop homophobia, transphobia, AIDSphobia, is to be supported.

This is an outrage. insurance companies have a responsibility to keep their end of the agreement when people spend years paying their premiums.

i believe that people with HIV/AIDS have suffered enough from corporate greed... this practice of denying their disability payments that they have payed for and qualify are criminal... and those engaging in these ppractices should be treated as criminals!
