Animal Friends of the Valley has it written in their policy that nobody can adopt a Pitbull if they have children under the age of twelve years old, and if they have one other dog. It is also mentioned in their AFV SCFA Animal Shelter Policies and Procedures, that "Staff is to discourage Pitbull adoptions." This is breed discrimination! Pitbulls are being labeled as "Not Adoptable" simply because they are pitbulls! Up to 74% of the adoptable dogs were Pitbulls. Something needs to be done! Please stand up for these helpless Pitbulls unfortunately are placed at Animal Friends of the Valleys. This discrimination also includes Pitbull owners, who can't foster or adopt. Please take a moment to stop breed discrimination at AFV.

Pitbulls are not the problem! Educate people who own dogs to train them properly, not discriminate against a certain breed. Sheesh. Humans discriminated against certain races and treat(ed) them poorly because of is this not the same thing? Some this prejudice against pitbulls!

I think many pitbulls are more faithful and secure than a lot of people crowding our streets

This is a ridiculous policy!!! I am so sick of the so called "Bully Breed Discrimination". This policy not only contributes to the "tarring and feathering" mentality of some people but also encourages more backyard breeding so that more of these dogs are available to the people that should not be allowed to have them, or any type of dog! More funds should be made available to educate people and to spay and neuter pets. The poor dogs are subject to unimaginable cruelty and abuse and they deserve every chance for a better life that can possibly be made available to them!

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated. I hold that the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of man." -Gandhi

Pit Bulls actually have a reputation for being very good with children. They used to call them Nursery Dogs for their love and tolerance of kids. Is Apple Valley an area with a lot of dog-fighting? If so, a home inspection can help keep the dogs safe. Is this just a case of ignorance? A few years back is was Dobermans everyone feared, then Rotties. Now, it's Pits Bulls, and the fear isn't justified by the facts.
