Apple has removed their iTunes store from the “Christan Values Network” (CVN.org) after more than 22,000 people signed a petition on Change.org started by Ben Crowther, a student and Apple customer concerned about CVN’s funding of anti-gay, anti-women organizations like Focus on the Family and the Family Research Council.

The Apple campaign, which picked up significant momentum after 13,000 AllOut.org members signed another petition on Thursday, follows Microsoft’s decision to leave CVN two weeks ago, prompted by another customer-driven campaign on Change.org. Several other companies have removed their online stores since then, including REI, Macy's, Delta Airlines, BBC America, and Wells Fargo.

“From the beginning, I knew that once this issue was brought to Apple's attention, they would not want to be a part of CVN because it funds anti-gay hate groups like Focus on the Family and the Family Research Council,” said Change.org petition starter Ben Crowther. “Apple is a fair-minded business. I'm glad this petition helped make Apple aware of this issue, and I am thrilled that they removed iTunes from CVN.”

Did you know that dozens of major brands, including Target, Macy’s, USA Today, Netflix, Apple, Dell, and even Sesame Street are supporting known hate groups through the link referral service know as the Christian Values Network (CVN)?

According to CVN, there are more than 170,000 charities that benefit from the CVN’s service by receiving donations through purchases made through the site. For example, someone could buy airline tickets from Delta, and the airline would make a donation to the charity of the customer’s choice through CVN.

Unfortunately, there are several organizations included on CVN’s service that support discrimination. In addition to Focus on the Family's anti-gay agenda, the Southern Poverty Law Center has declared organizations like the Family Research Council as known a “hate group,” for their blatant and repeated homophobic lies about lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people. These organizations receive donations through CVN when customers buy products through CVN stores.

Corporations that are typically strong on LGBT rights like Apple, Wells Fargo, Macy’s and others, are allowing their brands to be used to raise money for organizations whose major focus of work is hurting lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. This has to stop. Call on Apple to insist CVN stop using their brand to raise money for hate.

I messaged Ben Crowther, the creator of this petition, awhile ago, and he said that Apple was actually no longer apart of CVN because of this petition, but he was waiting to announce the victory. I don't know why though…

      Apple,

I, like many of your customers, am a proud, out member of the LGBT community. Your use of the Christian Values Network within your charitable donation program harms my community by supporting organizations that spread deceit and hate about LGBT-identified individuals. I ask that you cease association with the CVN in accordance with values of respect, honesty, and acceptance.

      Thank you.

Apple, you have already done so many things to do with supporting the LGBT community and I really thank you for that. You can do this too, you can prove that companies dont always have to be cold hearted and can care for others. Please, dont support homophobia.

must we repeat this for every single minority group until there are none left? Blacks and Jews are a no-go so hate on gays? How about supporting anti-muslim or anti-disabled sentiments?

Why when we have so much more to worry about are people wasting energy and money for the cause of negativity towards other human beings?
