Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) sits on the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. That's him in the video, describing his deeply held personal beliefs that evolution, embryology, and big bang theory are "lies straight from the pit of hell", and that the Earth is 9,000 years old.

At a time when science and technology play ever more important roles in our lives, we should require our elected representatives to understand and accept basic scientific principles like evolution and contential drift, none of which are controversial among scientists.

Broun's entitled to his personal views, as we all are, but his stated goal of using scripture to guide his policymaking calls into question his ability to perform his duties in a rational, coherent, and effective manner. He should be censured and removed from his post on the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.

House Science Committee: Remove Rep. Paul Broun

Rep. Broun's deeply held personal beliefs that evolution, embryology, and big bang theory are "lies straight from the pit of hell", and that the Earth is 9,000 years old, should disqualify him from serving on the committee.

How can this country progress if we have leaders with antiquated beliefs such as his. I can't see him being able to put aside his personal beliefs and lead us into the future. Having him on this Committee is an oxymoron!

The Science Committee need to be advocates for science -- in order to help our country advance into the 21st century.

I am a working mathematician and researcher in number theory. Rep Paul Broun believes in a theory that should have been forgotten and ignored five hundred years ago, and the whole anti-science community is completely useless in the pursuit of knowledge: their fairy tale that explains everything is unrevisable and absolute, he is a complete joke.
