South Gloucestershire Council have and continue to make cuts to its Staff, Services (Inc Front Line Services), Community Grants and assets to name a few; to save around £45 Million over a three year period.

To date, there has been no mention of a reduction to elected councillors as a cost saving measure.

Reducing the number of elected councillors by 25% would save the authority around £200,000.00 every year and almost £1 Million, every four year term.

There can be no argument that any reduction would impact on representation for the public as a large number of councillors currently fail to work for, or effectively represent their communities at present, proving that the number of councillors is too high.

I am signing because I completely agree with the proposal. As services have reduced over a number of years I see no reason why there should not be a comparable reduction in Cllrs. Having three Councillors per ward is counterproductive, what happens is the Cllrs which are not performing and cannot be trusted are ignored by the public. The good Cllrs come to the surface. Why should I afford them a good standard of living whilst mine is suffering with the withdraw of necessary services.

Monies saved here could contribute to other council services that have recently been forced to be cut.

As a tax-payer in Bradley Stoke, I want to make sure that every penny that South Gloucestershire spends goes to benefit it's residents. So a full review of roles, responsibilities and effectiveness should be undertaken.

If we need to cut back then why do we the people of south gloucestershire have to pay over £150,000.00 a year for a cheif executive.
