Social workers and advocates: Fight for fair market compensation, equal pay, and one uniform/national licensure

According to the NASW, "the primary mission of the social work profession is to enhance human well being and help meet the basic human needs of all people, with particular attention to the needs and empowerment of people who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty. Social work core values are service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence". How can we advocate for others when we cannot provide or meet our basic needs because of the lack of fair pay in the market for social workers? We are undervalued in our society, people and other disciplines (professions) have misconception about our profession, and many social workers who have the passion to fight for social justice have to choose to stay underpaid, yet social workers students accrue more loans to pursuit higher education, and state level social work licensures cost increase every year. As a social worker, I would like to see a national, uniform way of testing for licensure to avoid the cost, frustration, and red tape that many social workers are encountering when they decide to relocate to another state or transfer their existing credentials. Social workers deserve "change."

I'm signing this petition because I am a social worker.

I already had my Supervision and passed my clinical exam. Other states I have had no trouble working in except Arizona. I can not believe that they are trying to tell me I need supervision. They sent me this letter that was unprofessional and treated me like I am the scum of the earth. I am ethical and hold myself to high standards . It is sad because my job might be ending and my LICSW or LCSW don't even matter. This will hurt my family, and it is wrong. I will fight this standard practice here in AZ.

I was a social worker and getting my PhD in human services and clinical social work, I know first off hand the low wages and high stress of social work.

I am a relatively new clinical social worker, and already I see the need for this type of change. I support a living wage, boundaries between our work life and our personal life, and a national licensure procedure. Additionally, I would add that the schools which offer MSWs must give us opportunities at a "residency" of sorts which will allow us a path towards licensure. Otherwise schools are just making money off producing professionals that will not be able to find sustainable work! Thanks for writing this, will share with all my friends!

I clear $1600 each month. I may leave the profession next year. It won't be hard to find a less stressful job with better pay. I am so mad at myself for going back for my MSW and accruing student loans. I would have been better off being a "lunch lady" at my children's school than a school social worker.
