Stop the mass killing of stray dogs in Sochi, Russia for Olympics 2014

With the 2014 Winter Olympics around the corner, Sochi has hired a pest control company to dispose of all stray dogs in the area in preparation for the Olympics as it can be dangerous and "embarrassing" to the nation.

Tell Russia you will not stand for this and support the Olympics. Instead of using the money to hire a pest control company, to invest the money in finding these animals a home and shelter. This is only a "problem" because of the lack of laws and regulations in animal protection and cruelty the country has never instilled. Please urge them to stop a mass killing of man's best friend and for Olympians to unite against this act of cruelty.

Also for a long term effect please ask The Humane Society to get involoved in implementing and funding shelters in Russia.  Not only will this change the current perception that animals are "just animals" but also create new methods in spaying and neutering laws, as well as abadonment of animal companions.  In the long run this can also create jobs for the community while helping out for a great cause.

Please unite in stopping not only this atrocity but of all acts of cruelty of animals on this planet.  We will all look back on these atrocious acts and really question our lack of compassion for all the inhabitants of this earth.

Please stop the mass killing of stray dogs, and invest that money in creating shelters and rescue groups for animals.

Do not allow in the light of a joyous event, for the tragedy of thousands of dogs to die because of the perception of embarrassment. If you want Russia to be seen in a positive light, show your compassion for the animals that inhabit this Earth.

The Dark Side of Sochi - Stray Dogs Euthanized En Masse

In this age of transparency and accountability, negative issues can't hide for long. And so it has been reported by all the major news media: We have a dark and gruesome cloud hanging over the traditional celebratory atmosphere of the Sochi Olympic Games-the brutal mass extermination of stray dogs in Sochi.

Just sent the petition over to HSI, please also sign their petition! I also sent a letter with the signatures so far, to the city of Sochi's main website which is:

Putin Urged to Stop Stray Animal Removal in Sochi

Humane Society International In response to reports that officials in the city of Sochi, Russia hired a company to kill stray animals ahead of the Winter Olympics, Humane Society International is urging Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop the culling.

Sochi dog lovers scramble to save strays from poison as they're culled in Olympic host city

SOCHI, Russia -- It is difficult for Sochi resident Tatiana Zarutsjaya to talk about the Winter Olympics host city's dog culling program without bursting into tears. "In order to keep those street dogs alive, I'd rather take them into my home than let them be killed," she says, her eyes welling up.

I have recently sent this petition through the Sochi council website. However reading more news about the reality of stray dogs in Russia is a lot more grand than the Olympics. What I hope to gain from this petition is to truly implement a system of change in animal rights through out the country, but how. I decided I want to add the Humane society and send over the petition to see what sort of aid can be given to allow these shelter, along with new ones to thrive. The main focus also lies in changing the attitude and mentality of how the nation ,mainly government treats it's animals. As this article states that this is only being done because of the "bright light" faced on this issue. Once the Olympics are over the massacre of stray dogs will continue. For now I am still digging more and devising a strategy and proposal of alternative that can be done to save as many strays.

Sochi's stray dogs find shelter, at least while Games go on

BARANKOVA, Russia - At the end of a road that winds through a mountain overlooking downtown Sochi - the last mile or so an unpaved, uninhabitable mess of mud and gravel - roughly 100 stray dogs that have been removed from Olympic Park are enjoying their reprieve from the slaughterhouse.

Thank You to everyone who has signed and taken the time to share this. Along with other petitions there has been some triumph. Local residents have taken the time to bring these strays into other cities and towns. There has also been reconsideration from local officials to open a shelter in Sochi. I have attached the article below. I will also be reaching out to others who have started petitions to try to enhance our efforts. This is not just for the Olympics but for the country to Russia to instill laws that protect animals. Thank you again!!

Also I am including Sochi's City Council email. I will be working on a letter that addresses the current problem as well as how to implement better animal rights practices
