As a retail employee of 7 years, I am sure I am not the only one upset by the declared 8pm opening time on Thanksgiving Day. Please take a moment to sign and support this petition.

The following is a message that I personally sent to Simon Malls to express my concerns.

"As an employee of the local Simon Mall in my area, I wanted to share my dismay with the current hours that are supposedly set for Thanksgiving/Black Friday. What is Black Friday if the malls will be open 8pm on Thanksgiving Day? What possible gains will be made by opening 4 hours earlier when families are PROBABLY still spending their Thanksgiving together? Does it put an extra penny or two in the pockets of those higher up who don't have a worry in the world about working a holiday in their life? With my company, no one gets any sort of compensation for working a holiday. And I'm sure that applies to many more. Shouldn't malls, which are family friendly establishments, have good morals and standards that fully support the American family and their values? This is a time for families to come together and enjoy a meal. To catch up. To have fun. Why are mall employees any different? Being in retail for 7 years, working for said Simon mall, and I find this to be crossing the line. Whether it's due to Macy's or not, it probably won't hold. My store has a staff of 6. So basically you're asking all of us to therefore put in a 12+ hour day... Absolutely ridiculous. Re think your plans and how many people you are truly upsetting over this. Because I know for a fact that I'm not the only one."

Please help in supporting this cause. Together we can make a difference!

Wow. Wow wow wow wow. I did not foresee my petition getting so huge! THANK YOU everyone! At this point, I'm not exactly banking on things to change this close to Black Friday. However, I feel we are fighting for what's right and I am grateful enough that my voice is being heard by people throughout the country. As I had mentioned in an earlier news update, my company contacted Simom directly and stated that all of our stores would not follow the 8pm opening time, which we were granted permission and will not suffer a fine for each and every store not opened. However, it does not change the fact that so many other people throughout the country will have to deal with these ludicrous hours and partially lose out on a day meant to be spent with families. Make it known to all that THIS is what Corporate America is becoming... All for the almighty dollar. On a side note, I have not yet been contacted by anyone from Simon or it's affiliates regarding this petition.

I would like to thank those of you in other states who have joined me in sharing this petition. No idea how it made it that far, but go us!

Take the time to talk to your local simon mall or corporate office to see if there are any options available to you regarding your opening times. From what I have heard, companies have a choice in the matter. Given it does not help that Simon as a whole proposed this insane idea of opening at 8pm. Go strong while there is still time to potentially make a difference for yourself, as well as your fellow co workers.

Just found out the other day that my company is contacting Simon to alert them that we will not be opening our doors at 8pm and are sticking to midnight. I am thrilled about this. However, so many are still being left in the dust. I will continue this petition and I still encourage others to share. I was asked by my mall personally to discontinue the mass re posts of this due to the amount of media attention it is grabbing in the area. I have taken advantage of my right for freedom of speech and already got it this far. I never expected that I would get the amount of support that I did and I would like to thank each and every one of you who signed, shared, and even brought it up once or twice to someone you know.

I began this to prove a point, and it's obvious of the feedback I've gotten from it how others feel. I will continue to post updates to keep everyone on the loop!

Bay Park may be a Simon owned mall, but they have no choice over the pre-determined hours. I can almost guarantee that they are just as unhappy as my fellow retail employees. This is against Simon Corporate, who is doing this to their malls all over the state, region, and nation as a whole. This is affecting a tremendous amount of people.

It's just idiotic that people actually believe that workers should leave their families to work, because their bosses would like to prosper in the benefits of their work.

Everyone one, including employees in retail stores deserve to have Thanksgiving day off with their families and loved ones. If any retail store, cannot financially make it without opening on Thanksgiving day, the store should go ahead and go out of business, because their business model is already broken.

Opening on Thanksgiving Day is ridiculous. Midnight is plenty soon for consumers. Change the hours back to 12am!

Actually, I support a 6AM opening time on Black Friday. There is no real reason why the shopping season needs to start so early.
