Put sidewalks on New Falls Road. One of the most dangerous roads in Buck County. Residential area need sidewalks

There is a Desperate Need for a Sidewalks on New Falls Road in Bucks County, Pa.

We are asking for your support by signing this petition to show the importance of a Sidewalks on New Falls Road in Middletown, Bristol, Falls and Bensalem Townships in Bucks County in Pennsylvania. As of this point there is no way that a person on foot or disabled can proceed along the road safely. The only way a traveling pedestrian can move down this route is by walking in the roadway itself or by hiking along a poorly graded, brushy side of the road. Therefore, they put themselves and the moving vehicles in jeopardy. New Falls Road is highly commercialized, having several strip malls, including such businesses as pharmacies, grocery stores, banks, restaurants, barbers and many other locations that you can drive to. However, a good amount of people still move around by walking to these places. In fact, there is a bus stop for SEPTA located on the road with no walkways to access it.

As well as New Falls Road having many shops and businesses along it, the road is highly traveled by vehicle transportation. New Falls Road is one of the major thoroughfares in the area. There are vehicles on the road all day and almost all night. The speed limit is posted at 40 MPH, but it is seldom that drivers are moving at that speed. Anyone who travels that route knows, that if you are attempting to do the speed limit you will be passed very quickly. With this in mind, it makes the road as unsafe both in a vehicle and outside of one.

Now, as citizens of a community, how can we allow our neighbors, friends, and family who maybe elderly, young, disabled, etc. travel along this route knowing the risk of injury and/or death. Again, we ask for your support. Please, sign the petition, have all you know sign. It is for the community, it is for your friends, it is for your family, it is for

You!

Honoring John J. Rearick by Making a Difference

There are many reasons to pursue this goal of having walkways put on this dangerous road. Mine is a personal one. In July of 2012, my twenty-three years old son, John J. Rearick, was by hit by a vehicle on New Falls Road. It was a hit and run, he was taken to the hospital and six days later he passed due to the complications related to the violent accident. My family was there every day at the hospital. We all hoped and prayed that John may come out of this terrible ordeal. It had felt as though we had cried for six years instead of the days.

The loss that we had was a horrible, to have a family member die in the prime of his life.

To watch them go through the days of life support for the head trauma he suffered due to this accident. A man so young, just starting his journey, who was trying to make a difference in his own life and the ones around him. I know that many other people died on this road. And their sadness, unfortunately, I can say, I now feel. I wish that no one to feel it.

I want my son death to make a difference for his community.

I want all the other deaths on this road to mean something.

I want it to be safe for everyone that travels this dangerous road.

WE WANT WALKWAYS ON NEW FALLS ROAD!

Please do not let my son’s death and the death of other be in vain.

For the Past, For Now,

And For The Future.

    19. PART 2 OF LETTER

      Part 2
Lemanna told Patch via phone that Middletown supports the vision of safety for pedestrians and drivers but there are a number of steps still yet to be completed before any further action could be taken. Saying that the alliance now working together is critical to making such a project happen, engineers will now have to discuss the practical challenges involved for each township.
Rearick, whose petition now has approximately 2600 endorsers, said, “I’m happy progress is being made. This isn’t about my son anymore, it’s about the safety of the community, that’s why this needs to get done. I won’t stop till that happens, the communities safety is at risk.”
Officials for PennDOT and Bristol Township were not available for comment, but Bristol Township Manager William McCauley III supports sidewalks for the highway, which he indicated in a letter he sent to PennDOT last month that Patch has obtained.
The coalition of officials will meet again once all they have gathered all the info

This cause is very important to my family. Being part of a family of 6 with 4 small children walking to school daily, the lack of safe pedestrian pathways is a disgrace to our community. These types of projects should have been designed and completed years ago. The Americans with Disabilities Act was passed some 25 years ago and we are just now having these conversations with our elected officials? Shame on our local governments for not providing much needed and the simplest of infrastructure in our neighborhoods. Our elected officials should also look to other cities as examples to providing "walkable" communities for their residents. Just because our fantastic communities were developed years ago does not enable us to continue our past bad practices.

My family supports this cause and would love to see public safety come to the forefront of our elected officials conversations.

People are constantly walking down newportville road from croyden train station and they are at major risk for an accident as no sidewalks are there to protect them. Dangerous conditions worsen into winter months as there is even less space due to snow etc...
